Overbite (also referred to as Jawbreaker) is a minor antagonist in the Transformers franchise. He is based on a figure released in 1988.
Marvel Comics[]
Overbite (also known as Jawbreaker) first appeared with the rest of the Seacons in the Marvel UK-exclusive story "Enemy Action". They had been summoned to Earth by Shockwave to construct defences around the Decepticons' new underwater base. When Galvatron approached the base, Shockwave despatched them to confront him. Jawbreaker and Seawing briefly double-teamed him but the Seacons were ultimately defeated even after forming Piranacon. In "Salvage", Jawbreaker was part of a team sent to London to recover Megatron. When a salvage team removed him from the Thames, Jawbreaker severed the lines, allowing a group of Decepticon planes to retrieve him.
In the UK annual story "Dreadwing Down", Overbite and the other Seacons attempted to retrieve a stolen fuel converter from the crashed Dreadwing (the combined form of Dreadwind and Darkwing). They were challenged by the Autobot Powermasters, with Overbite battling Getaway and Slapdash. The Autobots ended up getting hold of the fuel cell and the Seacons were left to rescue their Nebulan allies Hi-Test and Throttle.
Overbite made his Marvel US debut in Issue #47 during the Underbase Saga. He and the other Seacons searched the ocean for a pair of Autobot cassettes containing details of the Underbase, the source of all knowledge. Despite intervention from Blaster, they managed to recover the information. In Issue #49, Starscream manipulated the Earth Decepticons led by Ratbat into fighting the newly-arrived Nebulan Decepticons led by Scorponok, with Overbite battling Bomb-Burst. At the climax of the storyline, with Starscream having gained the power of the Underbase and the two Decepticon groups having united with the Autobots to stop him, Overbite was part of a team led by Ratbat and Blaster who defended New York and was among those killed in the battle.
In Marvel UK's Earthforce storyline, Megatron travelled back in time and possessed Snap Trap to try and prevent the Seacons being destroyed but was stopped by Prowl.
Trivia[]
- Overbite was referred to as Jawbreaker in his first two Marvel UK appearances. The comic's letters page provided the in-universe explanation that Jawbreaker was his original name and Shockwave officially renamed him Overbite, with both names being in use. The real world explanation was that Marvel UK had been given early character sheets which referred to him as Jawbreaker.
