Overdrive Ostrich, also known as Sonic Ostreague in Japan, is one of the eight Maverick bosses from Mega Man X2.
Character[]
Personality[]
Overdrive is loyal to the Storm Eagle, as he served beneath him until he suffered an injury which took his wings away from him. While his flightlessness makes him insecure and eventually lead to his transformation into an Irregular, his speed is his most treasured trait.
Personality[]
Sonic Ostreague resembles an ostrich with his long neck and bird head, though his arms are normal arms akin to those of a human in appearance. He has birdlike toes and thus tends to go barefoot.
Biography[]
Overdrive Ostrich is a member of the Maverick Hunters's 7th Airborne Unit under Storm Eagle's command, but he retired when he lost his ability to fly after an accident. He was later recruited by Sigma, who appreciated his superior speed, being stationed at an abandoned missile base. He launches the one remaining missile on the base, but X arrives at the place in time to intercept it, and he and Ostrich fight, and the Irregular dies in battle.
Overdrive Ostrich returns in Mega Man Xtreme 2 as one of the eight guardians of Laguz Island after his revival by Berkana. He is fought in Zero's campaign before his definitive destruction.
Ostrich's fight is unique in that the player has a large arena to maneuver (in fact the arena loops over, going on infinitely). He will attack by rushing at the player and kicking him, also using his Sonic Slicer which shoots various slicing projectiles that fall down from the top. If the player leaves Ostrich out of the screen, he will appear to be running in the background and jump over the screen again to continue his battle. His weakness is the Crystal Hunter, which briefly freezes him in place, although Sonic will eventually break free from his prison.
