A good strategist is half psychologist and half sadist. And I was the best.
~ Overlord

Overlord is a major antagonist of IDW Publishing's comics, serving as the main antagonist of Last Stand of the Wreckers, one of the secondary antagonists of More Than Meets the Eye, and the deuteragonist of Requiem of the Wreckers. He is a ruthless, sadistic Decepticon six-Phaser who rules Garrus-9 with an iron fist.

History[]

Origins[]

4.2 million years ago, Overlord was born on Cybertron's second moon, a rare "Point-One-Percenter". After its "first flash" killed the miners who discovered it, his spark was taken by the Functionist Council.

Time as a gladiator[]

Before the Cybertronian civil war, Overlord participated in the underground gladiatorial fights, even fighting Megatron himself. Megatron would be the only opponent to ever defeat Overlord, and he did so regularly, giving Overlord a pathological fear of defeat. to be added

Ruling Garrus-9[]

At the height of the cross-galactic Decepticon uprising, Overlord arrived at Garrus-9 in the midst of the Decepticon siege of the prison, and casually murdered garrison leader Skyquake when he refused to turn command over to him. Intending to turn Garrus-9 into his home away from home, Overlord personally defeated warden Fortress Maximus. He threw Maximus to the crowd of Decepticon prisoners he had freed as a show of good faith, musing he was going to enjoy Garrus-9.

During his time in command of Garrus-9, Overlord turned the prison into a huge gladiatorial arena, and had the  Autobot gaolers fight for their lives with the promise that victory meant freedom. However, the truth was those who won in twelve bouts were offered the choice of facing Overlord himself or committing suicide. Overlord forced the imprisoned Grimlock to watch footage both of these matches and of the sacking of the prison.

After a year, some Decepticons began to have doubts about their sadistic leader; Fearswoop questioned Overlord's lack of sportsmanship, but Overlord let him live after explaining that if he hunted Autobots, the outcome would be certain. When Wingblazer and his partner let an Autobot prisoner get the better of them during a hunt, Overlord killed them for their carelessness. Around this time, Overlord also released Shockwave from confinement and let him leave in return for his weakness, the Achilles Virus, being removed. Shockwave could tell that Overlord's actions on Garrus-9 were trying to get Megatron's attention, though Overlord denied it.

  • The Overlord of Titans Return is modeled on this version of Overlord.
  • One of the writers of Last Stand, James Roberts, stated that he reckoned Overlord to sound like John Simm (who at the time was the most recent actor of The Master on Doctor Who).
    • At one point, Overlord says "Please attend carefully", a quote from Simm's Master (as well as Anthony Ainely's Master).
