The Overlords are major characters in the adult animated musical comedy series Hazbin Hotel.
They are a class of Sinner demons, former humans who were damned to Hell, who climbed the social ladder in their afterlife and acquired vast powers after having assumed absolute control over many territories in the Pride Ring. They operate as the ruling class of Pentagram City.
Description[]
The Overlords are a class of extremely powerful and influential demons who reign over territories and sections of Hell. Many of them are related to something. For example, Alastor is related to radio, Vox is related to technology, Valentino is related to adult entertainment, Velvette is related to social media, etc. When Vaggie is explaining Alastor's origins, we can see that there is 11 Overlords in total; however, it's possible two of those were retconned into being Ars Goetia members.
Members[]
Confirmed[]
- Carmilla Carmine (Ruler of Hell's weapon industry and de-facto leader of the Overlords)
- Zestial (Oldest known Overlord in Hell and second-in-command of the Overlords)
- Alastor (The Radio Demon, protector and facility manager of the Hazbin Hotel)
- Rosie (Owner of Rosie's Emporium, ruler of Cannibal Town; Owner of Alastor's soul)
- The Vees (Overlords of modern media)
- Zeezi (Presumably owner of a bar/club called Klub Kaiju)
- Maestro (musician)
- Prick and Hatchet (presumably rulers of the cowboy western themed district of Hell)
Possible[]
- The Von Eldritch Family (Aristocratic Overlords that are close to the Morningstar Family; might have been retconned into being something else)
- Frederick von Eldritch
- Bethesda von Eldritch
- Helsa Von Eldritch
- Seviathan Von Eldritch
- Odette and Clara Carmina (Carmilla's children and assistants)
- Unnamed Goetia-style theatre Overlord (same as Vassago)
Former[]
- Husk (Gambling Overlord; lost his fame and power to Alastor)
- Dozens of centuries-old Overlords (overthrown, tortured and killed by Alastor)
Powers and Abilities[]
- Demonic magic: The Overlords are showed to have control over powerful dark magic that grant them many supernatural abilities and absolute power over normal demons. For example, Alastor has acquired the ability to use Voodoo magic, and Vox is confirmed by the creators to be able to manipulate electricity and technology, such as transforming into a thunder, enter in electrical dispositives and be able to cause a Hell-wide black out if he get extremely angry, and be able to spy others from screens and cause distortions and malfunctions.
- Empowered demonic abilities: Due to their ownership of souls and demonic magic, the Overlords have all the basic-traits of a demon in an advanced way, such as supernatural resistance, immortality and transformation.
- Influence: Overlords hold absolute power over sections of Hell, as well as manage many successful business and activities, such as Valentino, who owns all porn studios in Hell and is involved in drug deals, or Vox, who is the owner of a large company in Pentagram City that grants him great wealth, privileges and resources.
- Business management: Many of the overlords have some experience in managing businesses and groups. Carmilla and the Vees are CEOs, Alastor is a financial backer for the Hazbin Hotel, and Rosie owns a shop in the Cannibal Colony.

Trivia[]
- Some fans thought that Stolas is an Overlord due to a character with a similar design appearing in the pilot of Hazbin Hotel. However, Vivziepop confirmed that he's actually part of the Ars Goetia, a clan of royal demons that effectively is placed upper to the Overlords in terms of status.
- Vox, Velvette and Valentino collaborate as friends and business partners in a trio known as The Vees, and collectively rule over Pentagram City. They are also confirmed to be the secondary antagonists of the show.
- Alastor is a unique kind of Overlord: unlike the other Overlords, he doesn't have power over any territory in particular after his brief rule over Pentagram City, and is not interested and involved in turf wars and in the politics of Hell that usually involved his pairs. However, is considered an Overlord due to his immense powers and his infamous reputation across Hell.
- Carmilla Carmine and Zestial are close associates similar to the Vees. Carmilla, despite being the commander is presumably the weakest as beings such as Alastor are presumably more powerful as her only skills are crafting Angelic Weapons.
- In "Masquerade", it is revealed that Husk used to be an Overlord.
- Alastor may or may not be the strongest Overlord due to him possessing a wide array of powers and abilities while the others have yet to use their full power including the Vees although they are shown to be just as feared as him with it being seen in "Scrambled Eggs" that Sinners are also afraid of Zestial when they see him with Alastor, whether Alastor is truly the strongest has yet to be confirmed as he looked like he was startled by Zestial's presence.
- Uniquely, Rosie has stated that Alastor is the most powerful Sinner in all of Hell, meaning that he would likely be above every single Overlord possibly excluding Rosie herself. (Who gave him said powers in the first place)
- It's unknown whether or not Carmine’s daughters are considered Overlords in their own right, although it seems unlikely since they seem to lack any authority or influence of their own and while they don’t own a business, they do at least work under their mother but lack their own subordinates. They could also just be honorary members of the group. This also extends to Seviathan and Helsa von Eldritch, especially considering the fact that they along with their parents have not been seen yet.
- So far, the Overlords that have been seen so far are comprised entirely of Sinners.
- It is unknown if becoming an Overlord is limited to Sinners or if hellborn demons can also be Overlords.
- Frederick and Bethesda are both hellborn demons, which supports the possibility that any demon of a certain background can acquire the rank.
- One theory is that the Overlords hierarchy was created by Lilith as way to control endless population of sinners in pride ring. Lilith likely used her hypnotic voice (via sound manipulation) to manipulation them into having the system as easter way to control them.
- A popular fan theory is that Alastor actually imprisoned the missing Overlords and other sinners inside of the radio towers across Pentagram city in order to absorb their power.
- This is supported in Season 2 when Alastor engages in a battle with Velvette, one of the livestream comments claim that Alastor had eliminated his mother's best friend who was an Overlord, before being killed by Alastor as their screams could apparently still be heard when near the towers.
