Owen Moore is a major character in the 2020 video game The Last of Us Part II.
He's a former soldier of the Fireflies turned member of W.L.F., the ex-boyfriend of Abby Anderson and boyfriend of Mel. He assists Abby in enacting her revenge on Joel, but spares the lives of Joel's brother and adopted daughter Tommy and Ellie respectively, which results in the latter's traveling to Seattle to get revenge. He was voiced and motion-captured by Patrick Fugit.
Biography[]
Background[]
Owen Moore's past is unknown, but he was a member of the Fireflies, acting a soldier at the Salt Lake City outpost. The outpost was under the command of Dr. Jerry Anderson, Owen would befriend his daughter Abby, and the two later began a relationship. He also befriended fellow Fireflies Mel, Manny Alvarez, Nora Harris, Jordan and Leah. In 2034, Owen discovered the inhabitants of the hospital to have been killed by the survivor Joel Miller, who decided to take Ellie from them since their procedure would have killed her. Along with the survivors, Owen discovered Jerry's corpse, and comforted Abby when she arrived. The Fireflies would soon disband due to both Jerry and Marlene's deaths by Joel, thus dispersing the remnants to fend for themselves.
Owen would regroup with Abby, Manny, Mel, Nora, Leah, Nick and Jordan, and they traveled to Seattle, Washington, where they were accepted into the Washington Liberation Front by its leader Isaac Dixon. In Seattle, Owen would discover an abandoned aquarium and took Abby there, which culminated in the two sharing a kiss before leaving. However, Owen and Abby's relationship soured, presumably due to Anderson wanting to get revenge on Joel for killing her father, and the two broke off. Moore soon started to date Mel, but still had feelings for Abby. Before the events of the game, Isaac would allow Abby to form a group to head to find Joel, as he personally had a score with settle with the survivor.
The Last of Us Part II[]
Reaching Jackson in the winter, Owen agreed to help Abby in finding Joel, but was hesitant since he worried for her due to her growing obsession. When Abby decided to hunt for him on her own, Owen informed her that Mel was pregnant with his child, but also noted that there was a community that was better equipped than they were. She would ignore Owen's words, and decided to head out on her own as Moore returned to the others. Anderson soon returned with Joel and his brother Tommy, and Owen would witness Abby brutally torture Joel until his adopted daughter Ellie arrived. Moore demanded that both Ellie and Tommy be spared, and ordered Abby to finish Joel so they could escape.
Returning to Seattle, Owen would become distant towards his friends, avoiding both Abby and Mel due to the incident. While on a patrol with fellow W.L.F. member Danny, the two encountered several Seraphites in the area. When encountering an elderly "Scar" who appeared tired and was ready to die, Moore showed mercy to the man, but was held at gunpoint by Danny. The two skirmished and Owen accidently shot Danny, who returned to the forward operating base to tell Isaac, and Moore fled to the aquarium's sailboat. That night, he was found by Abby, who defied Isaac's orders since she was set to lead one of his platoons to invade the Seraphites' island. Owen admitted his actions, but lamented that he was leaving the liberation front since he didn't want to fight a war he didn't care for. He also told her of a lead of there being Fireflies regrouping in Santa Barbara, and that he was planning to leave Seattle to go there.
When Abby scolded him, the two argued on her actions before getting into an altercation, which resulted in two having a one night stand. The following morning, Abby left Owen so she could find former Seraphites Yara and Lev, as she felt obligated to help them since they saved her. She returned to the aquarium with the two since Yara's arm was shattered, and Owen agreed to allow them in and had Mel work on Yara. During this time, Owen asked Abby if she was going with him to Santa Barbara, but she rejected due to the rising tension between her and Mel. Despite his attempt to persuade Abby that he could things out, they were informed that Lev left to the Seraphites' island to speak with his mother. Owen was left with Mel to work on the sailboat, and argued with the latter since he wanted to rescue Abby.
The argument was interrupted by Ellie, who had arrived in her own quest to enact revenge on Abby for killing Joel. When she wanted Mel to mark a map of Abby's location, Owen refused, wanting to protect Abby from her and believing that Ellie would just kill them anyway. During the confrontation, Owen attempted to disarm Ellie, but was shot in the chest, leaving him to slowly die in the puddle of his own blood. While dying, he attempted to tell Ellie that Mel was pregnant, but the latter was already dead from Ellie's stab wound.
Legacy[]
Abby and Lev would discover Owen and Mel's corpses at the aquarium, and the former decided to get revenge on Ellie, but would leave her alive upon Lev's request to leave. The two then honored Owen's memory by following his lead in Santa Barbara, and discovered that the Fireflies were regrouping on Catalina island.
