The Owl Beast is a supporting antagonist in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House. It serves as an avatar of the curse that Eda Clawthorne is diagnosed with. While it started off as a violent creature, it soon is revealed to be a misunderstood beast that wanted freedom. it is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker
Biography[]
Most of its early life is unknown, but it is revealed in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door" that the Owl Beast was originally a normal Beast Demon from the Demon Realm wildlife that was being pursued by a nameless Collector, who hunted wild beasts to make them into curses and was ultimately captured and sealed into a scroll, this event presumably happened a very long time ago as there were still Collectors roaming the dimension. The scroll fell into the Boiling Sea and would eventually find its way to the Boiling Isles to be used by Lilith Clawthorne to temporarily curse her younger sister, Eda, so she could join the Emperor's Coven. When she realized that Eda chose to decline the fight of her own volition, it was too late and Eda transformed into the Owl Beast to be ostracized by the other witches. The curse would continue throughout Eda's life causing her to gradually shut others out of her life and leave home. The Owl Beast would face off against her every time she went to sleep.
However, as a result of getting stressed out, the Owl Beast would manifest, thus forcing Eda to stave it off by taking an elixir (however, as the curse grew stronger, the elixirs would prove to be useless). After the failed rebellion her ex Raine Whispers attempted to wage against Belos, Eda becomes sleep-deprived in her attempt of making herself stronger to prepare for whatever Belos was planning. As a means of helping her, Hooty gives her cookies laced with magic to induce sleep.
Eda relives several of her traumatic memories during her dream. On the night when her father was going on a business trip to the Mandible, he unwittingly triggers the Owl Beast and is attacked. His eye is presumably clawed out by the winged monstrosity worse being that it is implied that Eda ran away from home not too long afterward. Eda then relives Raine breaking up with her before they joined the Barb Coven.
She is initially enraged with how the Owl Beast ruined her life, but she is immediately tossed into the Owl Beast's mind and comes to the realization that the Owl Beast was a victim of the curse as she was. Concluding that things couldn't get better if they continued to have hostility towards each other, Eda calls a truce and gives the Owl Beast some of her elixir. It laps some of it up before crawling into her lap. The nightmare transforms into a beautiful dream and once Eda awakened, she acquired a new form comprising herself and the Owl Beast.
Later on in "Eclipse Lake", Eda attempts to master her harpy transformation by emulating a Dragonball-esque anime film. When she, Amity and King fall into a ravine, Eda is forced to try and transform into her harpy form thanks to Owlbert being unconscious and Amity's palisman Ghost being confiscated. Under King's recommendation, Eda talks to the Owl Beast and reluctantly forms a truce that allows her to take on her harpy form and fly the trio to safety. Later upon returning home, Eda reveals the terms of the Owl Beast's deal: in order to turn into her harpy form she'd have to eat small rodents to feed it, having eaten several voles on the way home.
After the Collector's release in "King's Tide", Eda takes on her harpy form to try and save King from the child. However, likely due to the Owl Beast recognizing the Collector as a member of the species that imprisoned it, it goes berserk and takes over Eda, attacking him. The Collector managed to subdue the Owl Beast and placed it in a cage within the Archive House, with Odalia Blight tasked with feeding it along with her other duties. At some point Eda managed to regain control and managed to open a hole in the cage, allowing her to sneak out from time to time. She also drinks elixir again, likely to ensure the Owl Beast doesn't go into a rage again. Later on in "Watching and Dreaming" Eda takes on the Owl Beast's harpy form in order to assist Luz and King in the Collector's games, taking the form for most of the episode as they teach him on how to make real friends. When Luz dies taking a hit for the Collector from Belos, an grief-stricken Eda takes on a more monstrous form of her Owl Beast transformation and attacks alongside King in a rage. After Luz is brought back via the Titan's magic, Eda continues using her harpy form to fight Belos, only reverting after he's defeated.
In the epilogue of The Owl House, it's revealed that Lilith at some point has also made a pact with the Owl Beast and is capable of using a harpy form similarly to Eda's.

Trivia[]
- In "The Intruder", when Eda transformed into the Owl Beast, King identified her form as a type of demon, although whether this applies to the creature is unclear. This is further implied in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", as the Owl Beast is marked as unknown despite being grouped with Beast demons on Hooty's demon board.
- When Lilith transforms, most of her curse form's physiology resemble a raven rather than an owl, hinting that the Owl Beast curse form isn't limited to one species of bird.
- It is still unknown is Lilith's cursed form is another part of the Owl Beast or an entirely different creature.
- At the end of the series, it was shown that Lilith also made managed to turn into her "harpy form", just like Eda, but much later, implying that this other version of the curse may be an entirely different one.
- It is still unknown is Lilith's cursed form is another part of the Owl Beast or an entirely different creature.
- While it was originally implied that The Collector was the one who trapped the Owl Beast, in more recent episodes it was hinted that The Collector and The Grand Huntsman are two different entities, with The Huntsman being the most likely to be the one seen in the Owl Beast's memories.
- Although this still doesn't explain why the Huntsman and the Collector have the exact same voice and why the Owl Beast became enraged upon seeing the latter in "For the Future". It's possible that it was a red herring, the Owl Beast still recognized him as a Collector even if not the same one who cursed her, or that the Collector really was meant to be the Huntsman and the one who cursed the Owl Beast, but it was retconned to make him less evil and fit his current, childlike personality.
- It's unknown why the Owl Beast's curse causes the victim to lose their magic as they try to suppress it. One theory is that the Owl Beast could negate magic as a beast demon, which is why it was captured by the Collectors in the first place thanks to this unique ability.
- As Lilith takes on a larger, raven-like beast form under the curse's effects, it's unknown if a separate "Raven Beast" exists as the curse's avatar or if she took on a form different from Eda's due to her curse being triggered by jealousy and panic instead of anger.
