Pålsson's unnamed son, also known as Sotis, is the main antagonist of the 2023 Swedish comedy horror slasher film The Conference.
He is the vengeful son of a farmer who killed himself out of grief after unfairly and illegally losing his farm so the land it used to be in could be used to build a shopping mall, deciding to take justice into his own hands by killing the people he deems responsible.
Appearance[]
While his face is always obscured, Pålsson's son spends the movie in hiking gear and wearing a beanie. However, after stumbling on Jonas' mascot head, he steals it and wears it for the remainder of the movie.
Biography[]
Before the events of the film took place, he used to work with his father Pålsson in a farm, alongside the rest of his family. However, the land was illlegally bought and demolished to build a shopping mall, which ends up in Pålsson committing suicide out of grief after losing his farm. His unnamed son is the one who discovers his father's hanging corpse, and decides to go on a killing spree to avenge his father.
The killer is first seen in a canoe, rowing towards the retreat where the titular conference will take place. He begins placing traps around the woods surrounding the retreat, starting with several webs attached to trees. The retreat's cook, Karl, is the one who discovers the webs during an investigation after he had gone out to fill up the gas tank. Pålsson's son sneaks up behind him, and hits Karl with a hammer, and beats him to death off-screen. He then drags his corpse towards a hole with a bunch of spikes. The killer then finds the retreat's handyman Roger resting on a hammock while having a drink. He sneaks up behind Roger, and stabs him with a machete through the chest, and finishes him off by bashing his face in with a rock. Pålsson's son then wraps his corpse with a hammock, and drags him to the lake to sink him in it.
The killer is next seen when he steals the group's phones while they are on a team activity. This is also the moment where he stumbles upon the Sotis (the mascot for the shopping mall) head. He grabs it and puts it on, wearing it for the remainder of the film.
When Jenny goes to investigate after Karl and Roger go missing, he attacks her at the back room, chasing her to the kitchen where he knocks her out by throwing a frying pan at her. Then, he beats her to death with the frying pan and hangs her corpse. The corpse is later found by the team instructor Cleo, who he later kills with a shovel. Pålsson's son decides to attack the main group next, killing Kaj in the bath tub which scares Anette away. Then, he hangs Ingela to a flag, displaying her death to the rest of the group who ends up running away. The killer chases Lina and Jonas through the woods, but decides to go back and attack the rest of the group who is hiding in a cabin. After almost killing Nadja, Pålsson's son burns the minibus with the fireworks Kaj had brought, cutting off their only escape. The group begins to suspect that the killer must be Frans, a co-worker that snapped and attacked Ingela prior to the movie's events.
The killer is seen next seen patching himself up after receiving an injury in his eye. After this, he attacks Jonas and Anette while they were attempting to escape. Jonas leaves Anette behind, and thinking he was actually Frans, Anette approaches him, attempting to reason with him. However, when she removes his Sotis head, she finds out he is not Frans, and he impales her with a sickle to the head. He then attacks the group while they are in the forest, forcing them to retreat and almost killing Nadja, who manages to fend him off. Pålsson's son then gets in a long confrontation with Torbjörn and Eva, in which he almost beats Torbjörn to death but Eva intervenes, forcing the killer to retreat. As they go to confront him again, he surprises them and knocks Torbjörn to the floor outside. With Eva's help, Torbjörn sets the Sotis head on fire, but the killer puts it off by burying it in water. He then goes to finish the two off, but Nadja returns with a golden shovel gifted earlier to Jonas and cuts his head off, killing Pålsson's son and ending his killing spree.
The Sotis head, with the killer's head still inside, is found later by the police who had arrived to the scene that morning.
Trivia[]
- Despite being revealed as the farmer Pålsson's son, his face is never actually seen and he never speaks throughout the movie. His real name isn't revealed either.
- Unlike other slashers, Pålsson's son actually brings useful resources in his bag, such as traps, weaponry and food, carrying it around for most of the film.
