My brush is mightier than your sword.
~ The Painter boasting on his strength.

The Painter is a supporting antagonist and boss in the video game Castle Crashers, as well as the protagonist of its Painter Boss Paradise DLC. He is one of the Evil Wizard's top three henchmen, alongside the Cyclops and the Necromancer, and aids in his goal to take over the world.

He was voiced by the Text-to-Speech emulator Boing.

Appearance[]

The Painter is a humanoid with a large red toolbox for a head that opens and closes whenever he talks, acting as his mouth. He wears a blue shirt underneath white overalls, white gloves, and a white cap.

Biography[]

Because he is the least developed of the Wizard's three minions, the Painter is not seen in-game until the knights reach "Wizard Tower Takeoff", where the Painter has grabbed the Orange Princess (actually Tricky the Clown) and flies off with the rest of the castle.

The Painter is the first of the three minions to be fought, inside a room covered in paint spills and portraits. The Painter comes down a scaffold, taunts the players that they are in "his" castle, and paints an enemy on a canvas before going back up the scaffold to hide. The enemy comes alive and chases after the players, exploding should a knight come in contact with it or attacks it, so attacking from afar is the best solution to defeat it. After the enemy disappears, the Painter comes back down to paint another minion, leaving himself exposed as he paints. As his health is depleted, he will then paint two enemies and later three.

When he reaches the last fourth of his health, the Painter will run off the scaffold and calls for help, summoning all of his paintings from the sides of the arena that pursue the player, only disappearing when they are hit or once the Painter is defeated. Once defeated, the Painter says it must have been something he ate, spitting out a lot of fruit from his mouth before he is crushed by the boss chest, splatting him into a mess of paint.

Trivia[]

  • Some of the paintings in the Painter's room depict the Orange Princess dead on the ground with a knife stabbed in her back. Though not confirmed, some believe that the Painter stole the real princess, killed her, and replaced her with Tricky.
  • The Painter's minions are concept sketches by Tom Fulp.
  • If the unicorn painting is onscreen when the Painter is defeated, it drops the Unicorn Horn weapon.
  • The chest that crushes the Painter is wearing his hat.
  • The Painter's theme is called "The Show" by Waterflame.
  • The Painter and several other Castle Crashers characters make cameo appearances as statues in Pit People.
  • Painter does talk but it's kind of hard to understand.
  • Painter went through a lot of designs during production. He was going to be a slim French Artist, then a beefier one with the final design's body, and finally came to the Painter.
