Rusli is a main antagonist of a 2025 Indonesian animation movie "Jumbo".
He is the village chief (Pak Kepala Desa/Kades in Bahasa Indonesia) of Seruni village. He is also being the arch-nemesis of Don and his gang, including his best friends Nurman, Mae (Maesaroh), and former bully of Don who redeemed himself, Atta.

Background[]
Back then, Pak Rusli has a wife named Ida. From when they're still date, both of them are so romantic, even they promised that they will be alwas together until death seperate them apart. After a happy marriage for a long time, unfortunately, Ida has hearth attack, causing her death, making Rusli being sad and lonely, due to losing his beloved wife. But, when the overpass construction was started, Ida's grave is one of the impacted grave to be dismantled. Although Rusli has been refusing it with a reason that is was his wife's grave, the workers didn't listen to him, and dismantled Ida's grave. Devastated by his failed attemp to save his wife's grave from overpass project, worsened with his loneliness because no one care with him, he ignited vengeance, and making sure that everyone in Seruni Village feels what he feels about overpass project that causing "Ida's spirit can't rest in peace" according to Rusli when he exposes his actual plan to Don at the end of the movie
Jumbo (2025)[]
Pak Rusli is first seen when some Seruni Village residents refusing the relocation of their houses and business areas for various reasons, trying to stop the chaos beetween the residents and the overpass' contractors. Rusli said that if the residents' are relocated, he doesn't know where those residents will live and keeping their business because some of them are given from their older relatives as their legacy before they passed away
He is later not seen again, but he is mentioned beetween the contractor's conversation with him via a phone call in Acil's workshop, mentioning about graveyard dismantlement, where the contractor said that if in 2 days the dismantlement isn't done, the deal between them will be cancelled
He is later seen again, but now, he's visiting Acil's house for offering a job for him, with him promised his total funding of recovering Acil's leg, just at the moment after Atta (Acil's little brother) telling about Acil that Don's show is helped by Meri, telling that Don is cheating because Don's performance was helped by a spirit, which is according to him, that was cheating, and sholudn't be allowed to perform, shortly after Don's show is done for that night, and after Don having a fight with Meri, because Don is stubborn to keep performing in the final night instead of helping Meri to get back to her parents, breaking Don's promises. Hearing that info, Rusli asked Atta where Meri live, and Atta tell him that Meri lives in an old, abandoned warehouse near the forest, where the Don's gang base located at. Acil later tell Rusli that Atta is too tired, and sometimes having over-imaginary and hallucination-like stories. After that, Rusli is pretending to telling Acil that Atta's story was just imaginary, when he's actually already planned something more deeper. After Atta goes to his bedroom, Rusli tells Acil that the reason he came to Acil's radio workshop is to offer Acil a job, and it's up to Acil to accept it or not. Hearing that, Acil quickly agrees and telling Rusli that he's able to go for work for Rusli. Rusli later also offering Acil to take Atta with him, promising that both will go to work with Rusli's car to the workplace.
He later leaves Acil's workshop after the deal he made with Acil. But, inside his car, he took a photo of his wife, and remembered all the good memories he had with his wife before his wife passed away, and his wrath that he failed to safe his wife's grave, revealing his actual plan with Acil, and his goal. With his sorrow, wrath, and revenge all together, he later wears, a ring with a red ruby on it, and later driving his car to the location, wearing his coat, to Meri's family graves where Rusli keeps all the spirits that he hunts
The next day, Rusli, along with Acil and Atta, drives to Don's gang base. At first, Acil asked why did Rusli took both of them to that place. But Rusli answered that it's not important for Acil to know. Rusli later asks his radio from Acil, and gives Atta a rolled paper. Acil gives the radio, and Rusli take the radio from Acil rudely. After that, Rusli started to walk slowly, calling out Meri that is sleeping inside the warehouse. Meri later wake up and flying, seeing Rusli in front of the warehouse. Meri later recognized him, the man responsible for kidnapping both of her parents. After that, Rusli started to set the right radio frequency to summon both of Meri's parents ghosts, which both are still in hostage by Rusli. Acil and Atta shocked, right at the moment when Don, Nurman, and Mae arrived, and seeing Meri approaching her parents.
And without Meri knows the oncoming danger toward her, she approached her parents. Don trying to warn Meri, but meri refused to listen after both had a fight last night, although Don has said his apology. Meri approached her parents, just to be kidnapped by Rusli after that. Nurman and Mae started to disturbing Rusli, followd by Don later, then released his bag later. Seeing that, Atta sees a chance to preventing Don from next performance, so he steals, Don's fairytale book, making situation becoming worse. Seeing both of that moments happened in the same time, Don that is still thinking about his performance, decided to take his book back from Atta, having a fight, while his friend is still tryin to save Meri. But, without everyone knows, Rusli has set to more stronger frequency to suck Meri into his radio, kidnapping her, causing a blast of light and a shockwave that is trong enough to throw everyone except Rusli itself, as well as tearing apart Don's book that he is trying to take from Atta into layers of papers.
After that, Acil who sees everything, and Rusli's plan, said that he decided to take Atta home. But unfortunately, Rusli isn't happy to hear that, so he stepped over Acil's broken left leg to force Acil to work for him. Atta that seeing the moment Acil's broken leg being stepped, is trying to top Rusli from taking Acil away. Later, he and Don is having a fight, blaming Atta that Atta is deliberately telling Acil to take Meri, so he cannot perform. Atta refused, said that Acil is a kind person, that he doesn't even know Rusli's actual plan until that moment. The fight even causing to Nurman and Mae being angry to Don, because Don is too selfish about his performance, refusing to listening at Atta, and the cause of Meri's kidnapping
Moments later, after Don's Oma tell him that he has to listen to someone, Atta's apology and the reason he bullied Don (he is so jealous that Don is having some good friend and good performance, while he has only his Abang Acil, which that means big brother Acil in Bahasa Indonesia), Atta's wish that Acil can go back home and Acil's leg to be recovered, and Don's apology to Nurman and Mae, they started to plan Acil and Meri's rescue. It turns out that after Atta goes home, he opened the rolled paper that Rusli gave to him, and knowing the reason why Rusli take Acil away, that also revealed that Rusli is responsible for destroying the grave of Meri's family. After they arrived to the location, they started to sneak, and later seeing the grave of Meri's family, which is already destroyed, dismantled, and surrounded by a magical wave.
Rusli is later seen again, now along with Acil, that gives the radio to him. But, what he didn't know, that Don's gang is arrived to save Acil, Meri and her parents, as well as foiling Rusli's plot. Mae later spilled some dry ice' smoke, and Atta is playing the voice of the wolf's howl with his radio, where one of it's speaker is amplified with Atta's rolled paper, which is working as a loudspeaker, loud enough to distract Rusli's concentration and attention. When Rusli is approaching a bamboo forest near there, he's shocked with a shadow of 3 red-eyed dragons, which is actually just Don and Nurman playing as those dragons. Afraid of what he has seen, he quickly run away, just to be tripped over a rope, causing him to fall, and his radio is thrown away from his hands. When he realizes that his radio is not on his hands again, he's late, because Atta already taking the radio. Unfortunately, Rusli quickly taking that radio away from Atta's hands, and scolded Atta for foiling his plans, and later threatening Don's gang to give up, with using Meri that he'll make her lost forever if Don and his gang doesn't giving up. But, Don has another plan to take that radio from Rusli. He uses Nurman's sap-sap-sap (get attention, distract, and take) technique, which is succeeded, but also causing the chase beetween Don and Rusli, where Don, along with Rusli's radio, is running to one of the flyover's construction zone, while struggling to operate the radio to save Meri and her parents, at the same time Atta saves Acil, and asks for his help to make sure that their plan is going keep going
In one of the construction zone, Don is hiding behind the barriers, later to concrete pipes, when Rusli, that is so angry, is still looking for him, while Don is still struggling to operate the radio. Rusli later approached one of the concrete pipes, thinking that Don was hiding there, just to find out he's going to a wrong pipe, where there is only a warning light, not his radio. Don later getting out from another pipe, right when Rusli found him. But Don is keep running, trying to escape from Rusli, right at the moment where Don is successfully freed Meri from the radio. Meri later thanked to Don for freeing him, and Don replied that because he's already promised. Meri later wrned abpubthe radio, but it was too late, because Rusli is taking back his radio. Rusli later threaten Don and Meri, just to be thrown by a spinach by Nurman's goats, and attacked by those goats.
Don and his gang, along with Meri, later trying to escape from Rusli's rage using Atta's modified bicycle. After escaping those goats, Rusli chased down Don, Nurman, Mae, and Meri, along with shooting them using the electrical wave generated by his radio, but it was failed because it's running out of battery. Desperate, he applied his red ruby to the radio, which is turned out that the ruby is used to maximize the radio's potential, and extending it's lifespan without using batteries. After Rusli apllied the ruby, red colored smoke comes out, and later, the spirits of Meri's parents, controlled by Rusli's red ruby, is chasing down Meri. Unfortunately, Don crashed the bicycle, and destroying it into parts. Right after that, Rusli arrived on the crash site, and ready to attack them, right when Atta comes to the crash site also, and helping Don to keep going to the stage. Don is later planning a strategy, where Atta and Nurman will take care of Meri's parents. Unlike their previous meetings, Don gives Atta his book, which confuses Atta because along this time, he's trying to take Don's book and Don is trying to take it back. Don later explains the plan to his firends
Rusli later freed Meri's parents, but both of them are still under Rusli's control, started to chasing down and attacking Don's gang, all the way to an intersection, where Atta, Mae, and Meri take turn right, with Don and Nurman take turn left, followed by Meri's parents. Seeing that, Rusli decided to take the right turn, chasing down Atta, Mae, and Meri, while trying to shoot them. Atta later opened Don's book, tearing one of the papers, and throwing it to Meri, where meri throw it right to Rusli's face, blinding him for a while, because Rusli can't take the paper. Atta and Meri later throwing more papers, hitting Rusli all over his body.
Meanwhile, in the other hand, Don and Nurman is still trying to avoid the attack from Meri's parents. Unfortunately, Rusli manage to take the papers, and continuing his pursuit against Atta, Mae, and Meri, and Atta is running out of paper to throw. Rusli later said that beetween all of the graves that he dismantle and all of the spirits he catch, Meri's the one that is so burden to Rusli, and causing Rusli's plot to be messed up, and trying to take Meri into his radio again, where Meri attacked Rusli, and Rusli holds the attack using his radio. But Rusli's attack is so strong, causing Meri to almost losing to Rusli. Atta later throw Don's book that only left it's covers, and using his power that he get from Meri, and using it to freed Meri's parent from Rusli's control with throwing it to them, causing a blast of light, freed them, and destroying Rusli's red ruby, but also burned pages of Don's book. Meri later coming to her parents after that
Rusli's defeat comes when he's trying to approach and trying to cornering Don and his gang with maximum wrath, where Meri's family is becoming invisible to protect thrmselves. Don's gang is trying to run from him, jut to find out it was a dead end, while Rusli is walking slowly to them, with his damaged radio. Don and Mae asked with bravery, why did Rusli trying to dismantle and sell the land where Meri's family graves located at, and telling that it was unfair. But Rusli just replied that those kids didn't know about justice, and telling that when his wife's grave was dismantled back then, no one want to listen, care, and being fair with him. Rusli said that since that moment, the only way he can get the most fair justice, is to make all the Seruni vilage residents to feel the same suffer he has, and if his wife's spirits can't rest in peace, no one grave and spirits in Seruni Village graveyard that can rest in peace also. Don and his gang, along with Rusli, walked to a stage, and Rusli said what he will do to those lands, it's up to him what he want to do with it, even if there's one that he can't sell, it's not a problem for him, as well as saying that there's a lot of graves and shops he can displace, selling them one by one, and it's okay it it becomes the overpass, or the others. But he didn't realize he also exposes his plan to the whole residents of Seruni Village, because a microphone is lowered right at his mouth. After exposed, its proven that Rusli is a coward, because when people started to boo-ing him, he asked to Don to said it was an acting. Rusli later arrested by 2 linmas' (Security Guard in Bahasa Indonesia), and taken out from the stage. He later losing his radio, completely ended Rusli's second job as spirit hunter, but what the other things happened to him next is unknown (include the overpass project), where he's possibly have to face the concequences for all of his acts, fired from his job as Seruni Village Chief, and cancelled the overpass project because Rusli can't follow the contractor's demand.
Personality[]
At first, Pak Rusli is seen as a good village chief, trying to solve all of the residents' problem. He was kind, polite, humble, and even helpful to anyone in seruni village. But, throughout of the story, his true self is revealed slowly: greedy, vengeful, corrupt, violent, cold-hearted, and didn't care with the residents' problem, legacy, and where they will leave or keeping them on business. But, he wasn't like this before his wife's death. Before his wife's death, he was nice, romantic, kind, polite, humble, and able to do anything for his wife. Because of this, it can be cocluded that the death of his wife and the dismantlement of his wife's grave contributing to Rusli's current personality. But unfortunately, he's also a coward, because he asked to Don to said that he's just acting about exposing his plan, causing his defeat inevitable. Rusli is also very smart to cover his actual plan infront of the Seruni Village residents, proven when Acil said that Atta's story is too imaginary, and Rusli said it's okay, but when he leaves Acil's radio Workshop, he started to think Atta's story, and connecting it with his actual plot to hunt Meri, at least before he got exposed accidentally at the end of the film

- He's one of the most evil and the darkest villain to ever exist from any Indonesian animated movies
- There are some signs that proves Rusli is the villain that might be missed:
- When Rusli talks to the overpass construction manager at the beginning of the movie, he said that he want to talk with the manager's boss. This is the sign that Rusli is responsible for the displacement of the houses and shops owned by Seruni Village residents' and Seruni Village's graveyard diplacement.
- The conversation beetween the contractor that is heard in a phone call in Acil's workshop is mentioning about graveyard dismantlement, right at the moment where the call ended, we can see a photo of Ida, a sketch of interdimensional radio, and a radio (that will be Rusli's later) that is still under repair and some modifications for Rusli's use later.
- During the scene that shows Meri's family grave that is already destroyed, we can see a man using his coat, that will later proven if that man on coat and Rusli is actually the same person: Rusli itself, but during his previous spirit huntings.
- When Rusli comes to Acil's house to offering some job to Acil, and listening Atta's information about Meri, which is actually told to Acil, Rusli later asked where Meri lives, because Rusli is more interested with that information than Acil, which is initially skeptical with the existence of the ghosts/spirits. This is a sign that Rusli is the main antagonist, because he planned to kidnap Meri the next day, and a prove that Rusli is smart enough to cover his actual plot before he got exposed.
- When Rusli, Atta, and Acil arrived to the old warehouse where Don's gang, as well as Meri's hideout, Acil asked why did they come there, but Rusli answered that it wasn't important to Acil for know. This is proving that Rusli is able to cover his plot before Acil and Atta witnessed the true power of Rusli's radio
- Rusli is a dark parallel for Don, if Don never want to listen to the others, always wanted to be heard, letting his ego take over him, never forgiving Atta, never say sorry to Nurman and Mae, never admitting his fault, never letting go of his parents death, and never taking seriously his Oma and his friends' advice. Both character has several similarities, both has losing their loved ones (Ida for Rusli, both of Don's parents for Don), abandoned by most people (Rusli's totally alone, Don still has Nurman and Mae, as well as his Oma), and almost no one care to both at first. While Don still has his family (Oma, his grandma), friends that are still care with him (Nurman and Mae, later Atta), he still admitting his fault to Nurman and Mae, and forgiving Atta later, Rusli let his loneliness, ego, grief, wrath, and vengeance take control of him, changing him from a caring village chief into a heartless spirit hunter, corrupt village chief, and doesn't care about his residents' legacy from their older and/or already-deceased family and/or relatives' if he sells their houses, shops, and their already-deceased family and relatives' graves for overpass projects, or anything else. If Don never want to listen to the others, always wanted to be heard, never letting go of his ego, never forgiving Atta, never say sorry to Nurman and Mae, never admitting his fault, never letting go of his parents death, and never taking seriously his Oma and his friends' advice, he will be like Rusli, or much more even worse.
- With all of the things Rusli had done, he's one of the Indonesian animated movie villain with perfect representation of 7 deadly sins:
- Pride: he's so proud for catching ghosts/spirits in front of Acil and Atta when he comes to Acil's workshop, where he actually trying to kidnap them with the reason that because of him, no ghosts/spirits can disturb any Seruni Village residents.
- Greed: He sells his residents' houses, shops, and Seruni Village graveyard to make money from overpass project, or anything else according to him about what he will do to those lands
- Lust: Rusli wants to take control over Seruni Village, even after his plot exposed at the end of the film.
- Envy: His wife's death becoming his biggest motivation to make all Seruni Village residents feel the same suffer he has.
- Wrath: His wife's death and his wife's grave dismantlement becoming his biggest motivation of his vengeance against the others to make them feel the same suffer, kidnapping ghosts/spirits, forcing Acil to work for him, forcing Don's gang from exposing him, and selling his residents' houses, shops, legacy, and graveyard for overpass project, or to sell those lands for the other things.
