The Paradise Protection Protocol (Japanese: 楽園防衛プログラム Paradise Defense Program) is the main antagonist of the 2022 video games Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet respectively. It is a security program designed by the late Professor Sada/Professor Turo to protect the time machine from any threats by controlling the AI version of Sada/Turo, the robotic counterparts of human Sada/Turo (version dependent), despite the latter's opposition to that idea, making it also the arch-enemy of AI Sada/Turo.

Personality[]

The Protocol's personality is highly protective of the time machine that the late Professor constructed, as they demonstrate when they override the AI that the late professor left in order to challenge anyone who tried to stop the machine.

It also thinks highly of the professor, having roughly the same worldview of wanting to share past/future Pokémon to the present, no matter the cost. It is ruthless due to taking over the AI professor despite the latter's opposition to that idea. Due to its protective nature, it also shows no hesitation when attempting to kill intruders, even if they are humans.

Biography[]

Before the events of the games, Professor Sada/Professor Turo was part of the team that explored the Great Crater of Paldea, setting up the Zero Lab in Area Zero. There, Sada/Turo discovered and named the Terastal phenomenon. Sada/Turo was able to develop a prototype for the Tera Orb, earning her/his corporate backing for her/his projects and allowing her/his to set up a second laboratory in a lighthouse near Cabo Poco. Furthermore, she/he was able to harness more of the unstable energy, despite concern from her/his funders, and moved the majority of her/his research back to the Zero Lab. Sada/Turo, fascinated with the idea of Pokémon from other ages, succeeded in developing a time machine that would allow her/him to reach out to Paradox Pokémon, Pokémon from the ancient past/distant future, by transporting Poké Balls to different points on the timeline to catch them and bring them into modern time. These included Koraidon/Miraidon, an ancient ancestor/futuristic descendant of Cyclizar. Additionally, an associate of Turo/Sada had begun expecting his/her child.

However, Sada/Turo began to become obsessed with her/his research, continuing the influx of Paradox Pokémon into the modern day in her/his pursuit of a paradise for her/his family. Shortly after their son, Arven, was born, the man/woman walked out on Sada/Turo and they were left without help, driving her/him deeper into her/his work and ironically causing her/him to begin neglecting the very people she/he had made plans for. Arven ended up growing up in the lighthouse laboratory on Poco Path on his own with his Maschiff which eventually evolved into Mabosstiff, never seeing or connecting with Sada/Turo due to the latter's newfound devotion to the Tera Project.

This estrangement was intensified by Sada's/Turo's search for a more suitable assistant, leading to her/him creating an artificial intelligence copy of herself/himself using the Zero Lab's crystals to double productivity as humanity does not possess the knowledge to develop a sophisticated AI in the time period the game takes place in which is why AI Sada/Turo cannot leave Area Zero. Together, they were able to transport a second Koraidon/Miraidon to the present day, in hopes that the two Koraidon/Miraidon could survive and thrive in their new surroundings. At some point, Sada/Turo also developed the Poké Ball Lock System, an ID-based defense mechanism for her/his lab.

Sada/Turo was determined to maintain her/his dream of past/future and present Pokémon existing in harmony. Unfortunately, Sada's/Turo's research was cut short due to the second Koraidon/Miraidon being more aggressive towards the first Koraidon/Miradon which is passive. When she/he attempted to stop a territorial battle between the two Koraidon/Miraidon, he/she defended the passive one and took a mortal blow from the aggressive one. This also led to the destruction of Research Station No. 4, and Sada/Turo eventually passed away from their wounds, leaving her/his AI to manage the remnants of her/his work in her/his place.

However, the AI did not agree with accepting the ecological consequences of Sada's/Turo's dream as without the original Professor Sada's/Turo's supervision, the time machine continued operating, bringing ancient/futuristic Paradox Pokémon to the present, risking overthrowing the current Pokémon populace of Paldea.

At some point, a Great Tusk/Iron Threads managed to escape from Area Zero and caused havoc within Asado Desert, becoming one of the five Titan Pokémon.

AI Sada/Turo began impersonating her/him, reaching out to Sada's/Turo's associates in hopes of finding a way to end the Tera Project once and for all. Throughout the game, the player is in contact with Professor Sada/Turo after they befriend the Koraidon/Miraidon, noting of the player's process as the Koraidon/Miraidon regains their powers by eating the Herba Mystica guarded by the Titan Pokémon.

In "The Way Home" story, unlocked by clearing the "Victory Road", "Path of Legends", and "Starfall Street" stories, the player, Nemona, Arven, and Penny are granted access to the laboratory hidden within the Great Crater of Paldea. There, they discover and are attacked by the Paradox Pokémon.

Correpted AI SadaTuro

The AI professor in both games after being corrupted by the Paradise Protection Protocol.

Within Zero Lab, the Professor reveals themselves to be a robot/android and an artificial intelligence of the real Professor, who was killed by the second Koraidon/Miraidon. The AI wants to stop the Professor's plan to bring ancient/futuristic Pokémon to the modern era, fearing it would destroy Paldea's ecosystem. The Protocol takes possession of the AI to defend the time machine, forcing them to battle the player. Upon defeating the AI Professor's team, everything seems to be normal. Just as Penny, Nemona, Arven and the Player were about to celebrate, the Paradise Protection Protocol gets activated and locks all Poké Balls that aren’t registered with the Professor's ID, corrupting AI Professor Sada/Turo with Terastal energy, revealing their last Pokémon, the second Koraidon/Miraidon, leaving the player, Nemona, Arven, and Penny exposed to the second Koraidon/Miraidon with no way to defeat it. Fortunately, the player is able to activate their Koraidon's/Miraidon's Poké Ball as they are registered to the Professor's ID, allowing them to defeat the second Koraidon/Miraidon. Once defeated, the AI Sada/Turo decided to transport themselves into the ancient past/distant future its creators had hoped to see as the time machine couldn't be shut down with them being present to reboot the system, taking the Scarlet/Violet Book with them, therefore permanently shutting down the time machine.

Appearance[]

The Protocol is a tall machine surrounded by a glass shielding (colored red in Pokémon Scarlet or purple in Pokémon Violet). While possessing/controlling AI Sada/AI Turo, their eyes turn black with glowing blue pupils and they're during reactivating and corruption, their bodies begin to partly crystalize on their legs and arms.

Trivia[]

  • At the beginning of the battle with the Paradise Protection Protocol, after the message "You are challenged by AI Sada/Turo!" shows up, the message will become glitched, briefly showing "AI Sada/Turo has no intention of fighting anymore!" before changing into "You are challenged by the Paradise Protection Protocol!".
