Dr. Anthony Ivo, also known as Parasite, is a major antagonist of the 2023 superhero cartoon series My Adventures with Superman.
He is a charismatic, yet corrupt and unstable scientist and the founder and CEO of AmazoTech. After beginning to lose favor in his company, he would attempt to regain control by selling his Parasite 1.0 armor, plotting to demonstrate its power by killing Superman. Following his defeat, he would be captured and recruited by Task Force X, using his scientific knowledge to aid them in their plans to eliminate Superman before eventually betraying them to pursue his own vendetta against the Man of Steel.
He is voiced by Jake Green who voiced Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 and Shuji Ikutsuki in Persona 3.
Personality[]
“ | Parasite: YOU AREN'T THE HERO HERE!!! YOU'RE NOT EVEN HUMAN!!! YOU TURNED ME INTO A MONSTER!!! Superman: You chose to be a monster, Ivo. |

Before becoming a supervillain, Dr. Anthony Ivo was already a corrupt and narcissistic tech billionaire who often did shady business moves for profit, including land grabs that forced people from their homes, working relationships with organized crime families and illegal environmental pollution. He was also shown to be reckless with his company’s money as one of his financial officers said that the top secret project he was working on, the Parasite suit, was sending AmazoTech into financial ruin. He also manipulated his public image by either distracting people with lavish parties and tabloid gossip or bribery when it came to the press and politics. Failing in that, he used hired muscle to make his problems go away.
After exposure to the suit, Anthony’s worst traits were amplified along with an almost drug-like addiction to absorbing energy, which caused him to have violent and erratic behavior and slowly go insane. By season 2, Ivo has mentally degraded to the point of acting like a feral animal, attacking anyone he has sights upon.
His already bad temper became uncontrollable and he developed a hatred of Superman for exposing him as an attempted murderer and for bringing down AmazoTech, which as a narcissist often does, believes he himself is blameless for. Ivo also later becomes obsessed about destroying Superman, wanting to drain him of all his power and then kill him in a humiliating fashion as payback for “ruining his life”.
He also doesn’t understand Superman’s altruism, as he believes that nobody does anything good for nothing and that there is always an agenda behind it.

History[]
Backstory[]
According to himself, Ivo was a boy genius who began to revolutionize technology at the age of twenty-one, eventually founding his own company, AmazoTech—producing phones, computers, security devices, and countless other inventions. Unbeknownst to the public at large, he was also highly corrupt, furthering his company through the use of his numerous criminal connections; displacing an entire neighborhood in order to build his company's headquarters, and sabotaging his competitors with multiple unexplained fires. He and his assistant Alex Luthor also experimented on a sentient alien machine later self-nominated Amazo to use his technology to enchance that of his company. Despite his success, Ivo would eventually start to go broke and decline his company's profits, turning his board of investors against him. He decides to pet an end to that by completing the Parasite, a combat armor developed by Alex while taking credit for its creation.
Season 1[]
"Let's Go To Ivo Tower, You Say"[]
In the present day, Ivo hosts a gala for his investors at AmazoTech's headquarters, Ivo Tower. Under the instruction of Perry White, Daily Planet interns Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane are sent to get pictures of the events and quotes from the guests about Ivo for Cat Grant's interest column; Lois chooses to disregard these instructions to pursue a story about corruption in Metropolis, with little success. Shortly into the gala, Ivo dramatically introduces himself and promises to debut AmazoTech's latest invention. He is then approached by one of his lead investors, Curtis, who announces that his board of investors are meeting tonight. Ivo drags Curtis away to discuss things, insistent that he and the board cannot vote him out of his own company.
Curtis replies that the company's profit numbers are nonexistent and that whatever tech Ivo plans to debut won't change anything. Ivo forcefully grabs Curtis and explains that his newest product will solve all of their money problems and redefine humanity, ordering him to keep the board happy. Clark approaches Ivo for an interview, and recognizing that he has come from Cat, Ivo enthusiastically accepts. He agrees to give Clark the details he wants for Cat's article, and, as payment for forgetting anything he might have overheard from him and Curtis, offers to introduce him to the gala's finest bachelorettes. As they are looking towards them, Clark and Ivo notice Lois, whom Ivo insults.
Enraged, Clark instead loudly asks Ivo about his various corrupt activities. Ivo laughs this off and decides escort Clark to the "press section", thus having his bodyguards throw him into a nearby alley. Lois brings Clark back inside to the stairwell, where they notice a secret laboratory. Breaking in, they observe various pieces of technology resembling those used by Intergang and Livewire while overhearing Ivo ignoring Alex's attempts to talk Ivo out of using the Parasite since it is a prototype along with reminding his boss of the dangerous side-effects from their test groups. Ivo disregards this and rages about the board and his humiliation from Clark. He asserts that his new device will shut everyone up, and orders Alex to proceed.
Ivo is lifted from his lab back up to the gala, and addresses his audience. He activates his device, a suit of armor called the Parasite 1.0, which begins to envelop his body. He explains that Metropolis is now in the midst of a crime wave like its never seen before, and that they cannot trust Superman to aid them for free; but with his new device, everyone can be their own Superman. He decides to demonstrate this with a volunteer, choosing Curtis. With superhuman speed, he grabs Curtis and hurls him out a window, while trapping his guests inside the room. Clark manages to escape and transforms into Superman in time to rescue Curtis and confront Ivo. Having succeeded in drawing Superman out, Ivo has Alex activate his Amazo Panic Room to trap him and most of the guests inside a forcefield.
Ivo pitches his device to his guests, explaining that the Parasite gives its wearer speed, strength and durability equal to Superman's, and absorbs kinetic energy from its opponent to empower itself while, at the same time, beating and overpowering Superman. Ivo then turns against his guests, forcing Superman to save them. Ivo pins Superman down and begins draining his energy, while Lois and Jimmy head to his control room, knock out Alex and disable the Amazo Panic Room; keeping Ivo from powering the Parasite with its energy. Superman regains the upper hand against Ivo, who accuses him of cheating and being afraid that he is better than him, showing how delusional he is. Noticing that the Parasite is weakening, Superman merely evades Ivo's attacks in order to make him deplete the Parasite's absorbed energy.
As he tries to unleash a final attack, the Parasite starts to feed off of Ivo's own energy. Although Superman manages to free Ivo from the Parasite, his body is left horribly disfigured by its effects. Superman brings Ivo to the arriving paramedics for help, where Ivo accuses him of ruining him, and demands to know what his angle is in saving people. Superman tells Ivo to look around and asks if it's so hard to believe that some people genuinely want to help; Ivo is then taken away by the paramedics. In the aftermath, Clark, Lois and Jimmy try to prove Ivo's corruption with the technology from his lab, only to find that it has mysteriously vanished, and Lois later writes a story about the collapse of AmazoTech.
"My Adventures with Mad Science"[]
Some time later, Ivo is captured by Task Force X, and begins slowly healing from his disfigurement. Following Task Force X's discovery of activity in Cadmus, and the Brain and Monsieur Mallah's departure, Ivo, wearing a shock collar, is brought to Cadmus by the General. The General reflects on his history with Cadmus and tells Ivo that he wants his opinion on the technology present there. Ivo questions why he should provide his assistance; the General replying that they both want the same thing—to destroy Superman. Ivo is satisfied by this response and asks the General when they start. Several days later, Ivo joins the General and Waller when they release Task Force X's prisoners, telling them it's moving day.
"Zero Day"[]
Together with Livewire, Intergang, Heat Wave and Agent Wilson, Ivo ambushes Superman when he is tricked into trying to rescue Task Force X's prisoners by Mist, armed with a new version of his Parasite armor. During the fight, Ivo grabs Superman, absorbing kinetic energy from his attacks as he attempts to free himself, before slamming him down into a park below. As the fight continues, Superman manages to recover himself enough to overpower the villains and make his escape—only for Ivo to grab him before he can leave. Ivo absorbs all of Superman's energy while laughing manically, ignoring the General's orders for him to stand down. The General is forced to subdue Ivo by activating his shock collar, knocking him out. He is then taken onto Task Force X's jet, alongside Superman and the other villains.
But Waller deduces that the extensive use of the Parasite is deteriorating Ivo's mind to the point that would no longer be of use to Task Force X as a scientist, arranging his escape by freeing Livewire to cause a jailbreal. Upon getting his armor back, Ivo finds Superman and demands a one-for-one rematch, beginning to fight him and absorb all the power in the building. But Sam interferes and Ivo causes the Parasite armor to mutate from absorbing enough energy as Superman and the other supervillains escape the complex.
Several hours later, Ivo arrives to Metropolis via digging through the ground, now gigantic. He begins absorbing more power and endangering the entire city while asking Superman to come fight him, implying he will start killing civilians to give him a reason if he doesn't. The Man of Steel appears and the two begin to fight. Meanwhile, Jimmy and Lois make a broadcast, asking the civilians of Metropolis to shut down the power in the city so Ivo's power would slowly disappear. They do as ordered, causing Parasite to lose his power and angrily proclaim Superman cheated again. After a quick fight, Superman proclaims Ivo chose to be a monster before locating him within the armor and striking it so hard he goes through it, pulling Ivo out of it along the way. Defeated, he is then presumably arrested.
Season 2[]
"Adventures with My Girlfriend"[]
It was revealed that Ivo was still imprisoned by Task Force X, but his mind has regressed to a feral animal. By the episode’s climax, Ivo escaped his cell to attack Waller, which he was effortlessly neutralized by his former assistant Alex, who convinces Waller to hire him while rebranding himself as Lex Luthor.
"The Ones Who Fell to Earth"[]
- Main article: Amazo (DC)
In the tie-in comics, a unknown individual using a Parasite armor is introduced. He attacked Metropolis until he was defeated by Superman and locked up the Checkmate agent Robert DuBois.
Trivia[]
- This is one of the few incarnations of Anthony Ivo who never uses the title of "Professor", as he is only ever referred to as "Dr.".
- This is the youngest incarnation of Anthony Ivo to date, as most incarnations are portrayed as being either elderly or middle-aged. Although, ironically, his deformed appearance greatly resembles Professor Ivo's New 52/DC Rebirth appearance.
- Ivo's company, AmazoTech, is a reference to Amazo; a superpowered android, and Professor Ivo's most famous creation. The abilities of Ivo's Parasite 1.0 armor also resemble Amazo's ability to copy superpowers.
- Ivo appears to be a dilution of Lex Luthor, who was his former assistant. Like Luthor, Ivo is a self-made billionaire of a tech company with shady criminal connections and created a suit of armor to fight Superman out of a sense of distrust and envy.
- His appearance and personality also seem to be inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation of Tony Stark; specifically, Stark's negative traits prior to his redemption and transformation into Iron Man. His storyline in becoming a villain seems to be influenced by the Raimiverse version of Green Goblin.
- The reveal that Ivo took credit for the Parasite technology Alex developed for him seems to reference Thomas Edison for using similar business tactics with his employees.
- Despite being the series' incarnation of Parasite, Ivo is never referred to by that alias until "Zero Day Part 2".
- The design of Ivo's Parasite 1.0 armor is possibly inspired by Emperor Zarkon from Voltron: Legendary Defender, another series animated by Studio Mir.
- The appearance of Parasite's giant forms appear to be derived from various Kaiju, mainly Godzilla, as well as Anguirus, SpaceGodzilla, Destoroyah, the M.U.T.O., and Leatherback.
- This version of Parasite seems to take a fair bit of inspiration from Iron Man/Tony Stark from Marvel Comics, who is similarly a dramatic, fashionable, and flashy CEO of a billion-dollar company that develops a combat suit to protect the world from harm. However, Ivo is obviously an antithesis to Iron Man, as Ivo is an immoral and entitled narcissist who only cares about himself.
