Space Pirates performed many experiments using Phazon as a means to artificially enhance physical strength. The Parasite Queen is the result of these experiments on one small life-form. This Parasite Queen lived in a nuclear power reactor and fired destructive beams at Samus from her mouth. The barrier that spun around the queen reflected her and Samus's attacks.

~ Super Smash Bros. Brawl trophy description of the Parasite Queen.
The Parasite Queen is a minor antagonist and the first boss in the game Metroid Prime. She is encountered by Samus on a wrecked space frigate called the Orpheon.
The Space Pirates had actually created several Parasite Queens by enhancing their bodies with Phazon. This was one of their first experiments involving Phazon.
One Parasite Queen went rogue and wrecked the ship to the point of no repair and killed several Space Pirates while injuring the rest of them in her path untill it resided in the Main Reactor, and the remaining Space Pirates in the Orpheon that survived sent out a distress call to more Pirates to come and help them contain the Queens and clean up the mess. Unfortunately for them, the distress call was picked up by Samus Aran, their worst enemy. She scoured the ship, killed some weak Pirates, and then was confronted by two Parasite Queens - one dead at the entrance, and one whose lifesigns were flatline, in a stasis tank. She also picked up some Lore concerning what had happened with the Pirates following the destruction of planet Zebes.
When Samus reached the core of the frigate, she found four Space Pirates dead when they attempted to escape from the Parasite Queen's rampage but to no avail. She entered the Main Reactor, and the Parasite Queen reveals herself preparing to battle Samus.
Samus' Battle[]
The Parasite Queen attacks by firing blasts of plasma from her mouth. Samus must shoot the mouth to kill her. After a bit, the Queen will make the radiation shields spin round her, blocking her weakness, but Samus can exploit this by dodging rapidly. Samus can use any weapon to injure the Queen and after taking enough hits, the Queen with fall into the Reactor Core below her and cause a malfunction in the ship's computers, setting off a detonation sequence.
Other Media[]
Super Smash Bros.[]
In both Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Parasite Queen appears in the background of the "Frigate Orpheon" stage. She watches the battle and occasionally roars.
In Ultimate, the Parasite Queen is a support spirit in World of Light who can be unlocked after defeating a giant blue Ridley on Frigate Orpheon with increased attack power. Her ability prevents the screen from flipping.
Trivia[]
During the development of Metroid Prime, the Parasite Queen had the ability to produce offspring during her boss fight. This was removed by developers, but the ability is still referenced in the final game by scanning the corpse of a dead queen prior to the fight.
