Biography[]
Channing's abuse by his father turned him in the direction of Satanism. Channing committed serial murders across Los Angeles to use people as Satanic sacrifices, becoming nicknamed "The Pentagram Killer" from the symbols he carves into his victims' bodies. Each murder location is arranged to trace a pentagram upside down on a map when all put together. As leading Detective Russell Logan is frustrated without leads, he gets a surprise break when local psychic Tess Seaton predicts the location of of Channing's next murder. Channing nearly butchers one of Logan's colleagues on the force, but she's narrowly rescued, and Logan gives chase. Channing stabs Logan in a climactic fight, leaving his abdomen with a nasty scar, but Channing is arrested. He's found guilty and executed by gas chamber, bidding Logan farewell while addressing him as "buddy boy".
The murders don't stop, as Logan's colleague who was narrowly saved is butchered at where she nearly died at Channing's hand. Another detective is killed and strung up high above the ground from under an overpass. Channing is revealed to have returned from the grave because the Devil gave him immortality, continuing his murders to exact vengeance on Logan. Logan and Tess are hot on Channing's trail, Tess narrowly saving Logan a couple of times from death by Channing's doing from her visions. Logan in turn protects her, but Channing can't be killed like a mortal during the cat-and-mouse chase. When Tess is abducted and taken to a drainage tunnel, a nun, Sister Marguerite, gives Logan a dagger sharpened from a crucifix that's sure to vanquish Channing. However, Channing also has the power of possession, and he manipulated Marguerite into taking Logan's gun and fighting him. As Logan plunges the dagger into Channing, killing him, responding officers shoot Logan from assuming he's murdering Sister Marguerite. When Tess has a vision of Logan attacking her from the hospital bed, then hears Channing's voice, she fears he's not sent back to Hell just yet.
