Patrick Friendly is the secondary antagonist of the Law & Order episode "Lost Boys".
He is a member of a religious cult who murders his own brother to protect a young girl from the sexual predations of the cult's self-declared "prophet".
He was portrayed by Brady Corbet, who also portrayed Henry Christensen in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Peter in the 2007 remake of Funny Games.
Early life[]
Patrick and his younger brothers Caleb and Luke were born into the Church of the True Path, a Boyd Canyon, Arizona-based radical fundamentalist offshoot of the Church of Latter-Day Saints founded by Wyatt Landon, its self-described "prophet".
Shortly before the events of the episode, Patrick fell in love with Michelle Landon, one of Landon's six wives who was only 16 when he forced her to marry him and bear his children. Patrick told her that he wanted to marry her, but when Landon found out, he had Patrick and his brothers banished from the church. Desperate to escape from her husband, Michelle went with Patrick and his brothers to New York City and took refuge with Brian and Joan Weimer, two former cult members who took in boys excommunicated by Landon.
Caleb wanted to go home, however, so he told Patrick that he was going to tell Landon where Michelle was in hopes of being welcomed back into the church. Patrick followed Caleb to Central Park, armed with a chisel, and pleaded with him not to put Michelle in danger. Caleb refused to listen, however, and they got into a struggle that ended with Patrick stabbing his brother in the chest, killing him. Panicked, Patrick fled the scene.
"Lost Boys"[]
NYPD Homicide Detectives Cyrus Lupo and Kevin Bernard investigate Caleb's murder and recover a 911 recording of a young woman - Michelle - calling for help. They talk to Patrick and Luke, who both deny knowing what happened to Caleb. The detectives put Luke, who is 14 and without a legal guardian, into foster care, which prompts Patrick to tell them that he, Lyke, and Michelle left the church to get away from Landon.
Lupo and Bernard track down Michelle at the Weimers' house and question her about Caleb's death. She says that she arranged to meet with Caleb in the park to help her get her children back from Landon, but that she found him severely wounded and fled the scene after calling 9-11 for fear that her husband would find her. Luke tells them that Patrick is planning to go to a safe house in West Virginia, so they arrest him and interrogate him. Lupo asks Patrick to swear on the Bible that he is innocent, which he cannot bring himself to do; he confesses to killing his brother because he wanted to save Michelle.
Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Cutter and Assistant District Attorney Connie Rubirosa charge Patrick with murder, but his lawyer arguers that killing Caleb was justified because it was done in defense of another person, Michelle. Lupo and Bernard question Landon, who has arrived in nearby Palmeira, New York, raising their suspicions that he plans to kidnap Michelle. Cutter and Rubirosa, convinced that Landon is the greater evil, make a deal with Patrick in which he would plead guilty to murder with a sentencing recommendation if he helps them with their (ultimately unsuccessful) prosecution of Landon for kidnapping and welfare fraud.
