Why... Why you... You pieces of trash! How dare you destroy my beloved weapon?! I'll tear you all to pieces! I'll slaughter you all! I'll shred you where you stand!
~ Patroka enraged at the party upon the death of her Blade.

Patroka (in Japanese: ベンケイ, Benkei) is a supporting antagonist in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. She is a member of Torna and accompanied by her Blade, Perdido.

She was voiced by Yuri Noguchi in the Japanese version of the game, and by Laila Pyne in the English version.

Appearance[]

Patroka is a pale woman with gray eyes, long black hair, and wears a black and white dress with armor around her midriff.

Personality[]

Patroka is mainly aggressive, particularly towards Mikhail whenever he bothers her. She is mainly focused on clearing her mission without failure, prompting to lose composure whenever the odds cannot be beaten. However, she still shows respect towards the other members of Torna. Underneath her violent ways, she does care about Mikhail, as seen by her telling him that only she was allowed to kill him during his battle with Amalthus.

Biography[]

Years ago, Akhos and Patroka were Blades of a pair of siblings. When the siblings died, they ate their flesh and became Flesh Eaters. Akhos viewed Patroka like a sister, but she did not. When they were captured by the Indoline military, Jin freed them and they would later become members of Torna.

Patroka is first encountered by the party in the Old Factory in Mor Ardain with Mikhail after they defeat Bana, declaring that he was still important to them due to his production of artificial Blades. She also barbs about Nia's betrayal from Torna and punches Mikhail in the face while he discusses about the Aegis. They battle against the party, but with Mythra's powers and the assistance of Mòrag, they are pushed back in the cave far enough for Mythra to use Siren and blast a beam at them that destroys their weapons and Blades. Enraged, Patroka prepares to use her own powers only to be suppressed by the arrival of Fan la Norne. Despite Patroka wanting to continue the fight, Mikhail forcefully takes her away and they retreat on the Monoceros, which was hiding in the Cloud Sea underneath.

Later, when the party obtains the Omega Fetter from Genbu to communicate with Artiface Ophion, Patroka, along with Akhos and Mikhail, reveal themselves as Flesh Eaters to battle against the party. They are overwhelmed until Jin arrives and easily takes the Omega Fetter and Pyra with him.

In the Land of Morytha, Patroka and the other Torna members pilot the Mersanes to retrieve Jin and ascend up the World Tree. When Amalthus commands the Titans to attack the Mersanes, Mikhail convinces Akhos and Patroka to leave and help Jin. Before Patroka leaves, Mikhail confesses his love to her, to which Patroka criticizes him for choosing a poor time to say so.

After Rex and the gang defeat Jin at the Megrez Gateway, Patroka and Akhos arrive and attack the party, but Jin tells them to stand down. As Patroka assists a wounded Jin, Amalthus suddenly emerges and kills Patroka by snatching her Core Crystal from inside of her. Akhos flies into a fury to avenge his sister only to meet the same fate.

New Game Plus[]

In New Game Plus, as with the other Blades of Torna, Patroka becomes a recruitable blade upon completing the game. Under the Attacker class, she uses the Earth element and wields the Cobra Bardiche during battle.

Trivia[]

  • Patroka's Japanese name "Benkei" may refer to the legend of Benkei, a 12th-century monk capable of wielding multiple weapons at once. Patroka's Blade, Perdido, is capable of holding multiple weapons at once.
  • Like Akhos and Mikhail, Patroka was designed by Tetsuya Nomura, who is best known as a character designer for the Final Fantasy series.
