Patti Levin is the overarching antagonist of the novel The Leftovers, and the primary antagonist of its HBO adaptation.
She was the cold leader of the Mapleton Chapter of the Guilty Remnant, a cult of nihilists who wished to remind the rest of humanity of the pointlessness of life. In the HBO series, she becomes the nemesis of Mapleton's police chief, Kevin Garvey, and haunts him after her suicide as a ghost.
She was portrayed by Ann Dowd, who also played Ramona Norville in Big Driver, Louise Durning on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Joan in Hereditary, and Aunt Lydia on The Handmaid's Tale.
