Paul is the villainous protagonist of the Chick Tract "The Poor Revolutionist".

The Poor Revolutionist[]

Paul is an American left-wing activist and a member of a plot to overthrow the capitalist system and establish a socialist government to rule the entire world. His brother, Jimmy, is a born-again Christian who he does not get along with.

At the start of the tract, Paul and his fellow revolutionists are introduced beating Jimmy up for bursting into their cell meeting to preach the gospel. Paul tells Jimmy that Christianity has failed and there will be no room for him and his "kind" after the revolution, and he never wants to see Jimmy again. Jimmy is thrown out as Paul and another revolutionist ominously claim that Christians like him will be "taken care of".

Paul meets with the communist leader, Gregory, who promises him and his accomplices positions of power in the world government when the revolution is over. At 11:25 PM Paul's group receives the code word "Bedlam" to tell them that the revolution has begun. Paul and his friends lure police officers into ambushes using fake 911 calls and then shot-gun them to death before burning down their homes with their families inside. Paul is shown shooting the wife and child of one officer after they escape the burning building.

During the revolution Paul is told that his friend Harry was killed by a tank, but he brushes it off, saying he died for the cause. Later Paul is shot by an armed civilian while storming their home and hallucinates Jimmy telling him that Jesus died for his sins. He recovers and dismisses Jimmy's words as him being out of his mind. After 30 days the American government surrenders and the communists take over the nation. Paul wonders why Gregory's foreign troops are still coming into the country as they seize control and begin executing property owners.

One of Paul's friends tells him that Jimmy has been captured and wants to talk to him. Paul finds Jimmy about to be executed alongside other Christians and tells him that he should have joined the revolution while he had the chance and now he is paying the price. Jimmy tells Paul that he's going to Heaven and Paul needs to accept Jesus as his saviour so his name will be in the Book of Life, but Paul tells him that he must be nuts to believe that. He watches as Jimmy is executed and silently bids his dead brother goodbye.

Paul and the other revolutionists are then summoned to meet Gregory, who reveals that they cannot be trusted because they betrayed their country and might rebel against the new system. Paul is horrified as Gregory tells him he has been sentenced to death. Paul is then taken to a government detention camp and shot in the back of the head, and an angel appears to take his soul to be judged. God tells Paul that his name is not is the Book of Life and Paul is thrown into Hell for all eternity.
