They strike, wrap around you. Hold you tighter than your true love. And you get the privilege, of hearing your bones break before the power of embrace causes your veins to explode.
~ Paul Serone on the anacondas.

Paulerson "Paul" Serone is the secondary antagonist of the 1997 live-action film Anaconda. He is a cruel and ruthless snake hunter whose primary goal was to track down a legendary giant anaconda and capture it for a million dollar reward.

He was portrayed by Jon Voight, who also played Jim Phelps in Mission Impossible, Mr. Sir in Holes, Mickey Donovan in Ray Donovan, Thomas Reynolds in Enemy of the State, and "The Voice" in Getaway.

Biography[]

Meeting the Crew and Revealing Himself[]

While a documentary film crew is searching for a lost civilization in the Amazon, they encounter Serone, stranded and deserted on his boat. He says he started out as a priest, but turned his career to hunting snakes. He offers to help them in their search. However, he is actually taking them on the hunt for a huge and million dollar worth Anaconda.

After they discover his true nature, he produces a firearm and forces them to cooperate with him, taking the boat crew hostage. He winds up killing a person and later attempts to feed several to the Anaconda in a trap.

Demise[]

In a last ditch attempt to get the million dollar prize, Serone sneaks up and ambushes Danny and Terri, the two main protagonists of the movie and uses them as bait to lure a large anaconda in. He succeeds and the Anaconda is led to them, constricting Danny and Terri in hopes in eating them, however it's attacked by Serone and angrily attempts to escape his net trap, the Anaconda succeeds and decides to go after Serone in a fit of rage. It catches Serone and constricts him, making Serone's plan ultimately backfire and is killed by the anaconda. However just before he dies, he is regurgitated by the Anaconda and mockingly winks at Terri before dying.

Personality[]

Serone originally appears as a mysterious stranger, but he is later proven to be an untrustworthy, manipulative and treacherous person as he puts personal gain above human life, which he believes to be expendable. He is hinted to be a dangerous murderer.

Serone also shows to be manipulative as he convinces a crew member, Gary Dixon to film the capture of the giant snake, to the rest of crews dismay. This would ultimately lead to Gary's death by being constricted and eaten by the snake.
