Paula Roman was a drug dealer and escaped convict in the fourth season on In the Dark. She was portrayed by Roma Maffia.
Background[]
Paula would be put in prison for an unknown crime. In prison Paula was known for running things as she sold drugs from inside prison, had her own crew and also had several guards who are on her payroll. Paula would also but heads with Samantha Rogers, who originally worked for the late drug lord, Nia Bailey. Sam had formed her own crew, but they were no match for Paula and her crew.
Bail's in Your Court[]
A fight would break out with Sam getting involved and beating up one of Paula's girls. Paula would grab Sam and pinned her against the wall. Paula warns Sam to never touch one of her people. Sam would act definitely by asking Paula what she was going. Guards would come and separated everyone from each other. Sam attempted to lounge at Paula only to be stopped by a guard. Sam would be warned by another guard that if she were to act out of line again, she was going to be punished. Sam would be taken away by the guards. Paula would then walk and sneakily gives a little bag of pills to another inmate.
Paula would be seen opening a microwave and reveals that under the glass tray, a bag of pills was hidden under it. Paula would take the pills and hide it under her waistband. Paula would then look over the cafeteria and looks towards a female guard. They both would nod their heads to each other.
a blind woman named; Murphy Mason would find her way to Paula's cell. Paula asked if she could help her, and Murphey would tell her that they can all help each other.
No Cane Do[]
Murphy warned Paula that the shakedown is being performed. Paula tells Murphy that she is not worried as the guards don't check her people. Murphy would warn Paula that this shakedown is not routine as an inmate was just killed and because of that the warden order a full sweep. Murphy would offer to hide Paula's drugs ass the guards think that she is helpless. Paula would ask Murphy why she should trust her and Murphy told Paula that she is just trying to show a little kindness. Paula agreed and hid the drugs on her person. As expected, the guards don't search her and Paula watches as Murphy walks off.
Paula would come to Murphy's cell and would take the drugs from Murphy's person. Paula was about to leave but Murphy stopped her. She tells Paula that she needs protection from Samantha Rogers and knows that Paula is the only person who can keep her safe. However, Paula tells Murphy that now she has no leverage she does not have to do anything and walks off.
Paula would go to the microwave but finds that there are no drugs hidden inside. Paula would talk to a guard who tells her that she can't sneak anything inside as the warden put a lock on certain thing as the result of the recent stabbings that happened in a short amount of time. Paula would ask the guard what to do and the guard tells her that she can just wait until things began to loosen up again. However, Paula tells the guard that she should know her better than that and leaves to see Murphy, who is in the prison infirmary after being stabbed by Samantha Rogers.
Paula would make a deal with Murphy. Help her smuggle drugs into the prison and she can protect her from Samantha.
Paula would meet again with Murphy who tells her that she found a way to smuggle drugs, through audiobooks. Paula agrees to does but warns Murphy if she loses her product, she will kill Murphy. Murphy tells Paula that she should send one of her men from the inside to go to the Chicago Institute for the blind and put the pills in whatever audiobook Murphy asked for. Murphy tells Paula that she will be holding on to the books as leverage. Paula tells Murphy that if this all works out Samantha will never touch her.
However, things would take an unexpected turn when Murphy is let out because her friend, Felix would post her bail. The audiobook with the drugs would then be taken by Murphy unknowingly.
If Books Could Kill[]
One of Paula's people would search Murphy's cell but does not find the pills or the book and tells Paula. Paula would tell the guard next to her to go find Murphy to get her product back and Paula would also suggests killing her.
Paula managed to call Murphy and asked her if she thinks she can steal from her. Murphy tells Paula that the book never came but Paula was told that the book was delivered to Murphy's cell. Murphy tells Paula that she does not have it, and Paula warns Murphy if she is lying that she will have her killed.
Murphy would check her stuff only to find that she does have the book, much to her horror.
Murphy's friend Felix would take the book back to the library. However, things go wrong when Felix is forced to flush the drugs down the toilet. Paula's associate would bump into Felix and seeing that he does not have the drugs would kidnap him.
Felix's sister Leslie would see this and called the cops telling them that the vehicle is a black SUV that said NFC. An officer would stumble open the vehicle only to be shot dead, by one of the offenders.
To get Felix back Leslie would make a deal with Paula, promising to represent her as her lawyer to get her conviction overruled on the deal that no harm comes to Murphy, Max, and Felix. Paula would call the men who kidnapped Felix who were about to kill to him, to let him go.
Hard Pill to Swallow[]
Leslie told Paula that because the prosecutor on her cause was just fired for bribing witnesses all they have to do is prove that they also did the same thing in her case. Paula would smirk and tells Leslie that this is good news for her considering the alternative.
However, things don't go the way Leslie planned, and she would call Paula about it. Paula would have the same guy; Reggie, who kidnapped Felix come to Leslie's office and threatened her if Paula was not released soon Leslie will die.
Leslie would call Paula and told her that she hatched an escape plan for her. Puala would be brought to the D. A's office for an interview on a homicide case. Paula would be taken into a transport van but before reaching the office, she would ask to use the bathroom. The plan is to have Paula escape through a high window and they though that because the guard was male, he couldn't go in the bathroom with her. However, the male guard does go into the bathroom with Paula. Seeing no other way-out Paula would attack the guard. A struggle would ensue with Paula managing to strangle the guard unconscious with her handcuffs. Paula would take the cuffs off and as the guard wakes up, Paula would shoot him dead with his own gun. Paula would then exit the bathroom and get into Leslie's car. Leslie would drive away with Paula unsure of were Paula should go.
Tequila Mockingbird[]
It is revealed that Paula has been staying at an apartment that she sometimes stays at, with Puala staying there until her people can find out where she should go. Meanwhile, Leslie would get anything that Paula needs with the only of person Paula can intact with is her associate Trevor who brings her food.
Murphy would find out that Paula is hiding in Leslie's hotel as she made a deal with the cops to find Paula. However, because Leslie would get into trouble, Murphy keeps her mouth shut. Paula would get suspicious of how long Leslie has been out and Leslie would explain that she just had to put a package to a neighbors' door. Puala explains to Leslie that she suspects that her boss is edging her out as she has drawn too much attention. Her evidence is that her boss has not answered back any of her calls and now so is Trevor.
Leslie would later go along with Murphy and Darnell's plan to drug Paula, steal her phone and try to find out who her boss is so that she can flee from Chicago. Darnell would later call Paula pretending to be Trevor who is now dead to ease her worries.
Leslie would go into her apartment only to see Paula who is pointing a gun at her. She would ask Leslie what took her so long, Leslie explained that she had a lot of work to do, and the restaurant took a while with her order. Paula would ask Leslie, if anyone followed, did she see anyone outside or did she tell anyone that she was here. Paula is convinced and would lower her gun. Paula would then tell Leslie that she knows that her boss want's her dead. Paula would then get a bottle of tequila only to find fingerprints on it. Paula would then turn to Leslie who drops the plates she was carrying on the ground. Leslie would try to pick them up, but Paula tells her to leave the mess there. Paula would ask Leslie if she put something in her drink and Leslie would assure her that she didn't Not trusting Leslie, Paula has her drink the bottle. Leslie at first only drinks a little but Paula has her drink more. Leslie starts to get sleepy proving that she did put something in the bottle. Paula would ask Leslie if she were working with anybody, but Leslie says no. Not convinced Paula would get Leslie's phone and went through her texts to see not she had received none which to her looks very suspicious. Paula is prepared to kill Leslie, but she would collapse to the ground.
Paula would then text Trevor that she needed his help. Since Darnell has Trevor's phone, he pretends to be Trevor. Darnell would text that somebody would be there to help her. Darnell would pose as that someone.
Paula would ask for a silenced gun, but Darnell said that he didn't have one. Paula was prepared to strangle her, but Darnell stopped saying that he will take her somewhere lees roommate and kill here there. Paula would let Darnell take her phone telling her that he will wipe it for her. Darnell would leave with Leslie inside a large chest.
Darnell would use Paula's phone to try to get Paula's boss to come to them, but it does not work as pictures are taken of Darnell and Murphy at the place they asked to meet by one of the of boss's guys.
On Trey's orders Reggie would then come knocking at the apartment room and confronts Paula about her going to the cops. Paula is confused as Reggie pulls a silenced gun and shoots Paula in the head.
