|“||...I'm not so sure of that. I was opposed to this whole plan, and now my hesitation has cost a great many soldiers their lives. The blame is mine alone. I must make quite a sight: the great Colonel Paulus, reduced to an old man whose glory days are long past him. Go ahead and laugh, Baldack.||„|
|“||Permission granted. I'll have my own troops move to reinforce your position just as soon as my men have finished their preparations. ...See that you don't get sloppy, General. I imagine that goes without saying, but still, keep your guard up.||„|
|~ Paulus to Baldack.|
Paulus is a minor antagonist in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is one of the many high ranking officials in the Friege army.
Paulus reuses Aizenau portrait with some very minor changes, as Paulus wears a pink cape and blue clothing.
In Chapter 13, Paulus tells one of his subordinates, Rist, how is the situation in Tahra is going, telling that he has the entire city surrounded. Rist requests to Paulus if he should send his forces to attack, but Paulus denies his request and orders him to wait until Baldack's forces arrive. Paulus later leaves, but Rist goes against his orders and attacks the city, which costs him his life.
In Chapter 14, Paulus questions where Rist could be, but Baldack informs him that he and most of his battalion were killed. Paulus blames all of this on to himself, thinking that he costs some many soldiers to die and that he did not agree to attack the city of Tahra. However, he tells himself that he is a soldier and have to follow his master's orders without quest. Baldack tells him if he can start the assault on Tahra, and Paulus agrees to his request, but he is waiting back to get his battalion in position and prepared in case if Baldack's forces failed. However, Leif and his allies were successful in defeating Baldack's battalion before eventually engage Paulus himself. Here, Paulus either dies during the battle or he is captured and released soon afterwards.
|“||Why the hurry? Baldack and the 8th Battalion should be here shortly. There's no need to overextend ourselves—we'd only be wasting good soldiers.||„|
|“||The poor sod... I almost pity him.||„|
|“||But I cannot allow myself to hesitate for one moment longer. I am a knight of House Friege, and I have a duty to uphold. Will you lend me your strength, Baldack?||„|
|“||So... This is how I'm to die...||„|
|“||King Bloom, I beg of you... I've... seen what will happen... It's not... too late...||„|
|~ Paulus' last words.|
|“||You have my gratitude. Yet our defeat is my responsibility...||„|
