Pe'Nar Makull is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Time and Again".

He was portrayed by Nicolas Surovy.

Biography

Makull was the leader of a protest group on a pre-warp world. He believed his people's reliance on polaric ion energy as their main power source was dangerous and was planning to make a grand gesture to convince the government of his viewpoint. He and his associate Ny Terla encountered Janeway and Paris when they became caught up in a protest outside the power plant. They took the pair to safety with them but became suspicious of them when a scan showed they had been exposed to a high amount of polaric ion energy. Makull assumed this meant they had been inside the plant and accused them of being spies, taking them prisoner. In fact, the pair had been transported back from two days in the future, where they had witnessed all life on the planet woped out by a polaric energy explosion.

Makull also took a young boy, Latika, prisoner, after he followed Janeway and Paris to the hideout. He had already been planning to sabotage the power plant and now planned to bring the plan forward. Realising their presence was influencing things, Janeway told Makull what was going on but he refused to believe her. Instead, he and Terla took their three prisoners to the power plant and told Janeway, who he still believed worked there, to get them past the guards. Janeway tried to warn the two guards so Makull killed them both, telling Janeway it was on her.

Makull and Terla headed into the now unguarded plant, followed by Janeway, who tried to convince them that their sabotage would cause the disaster she had witnessed. However, when a subspace rift opened up as a result of Voyager's crew trying to retrieve Janeway, it became clear the explosion would actually be caused by the rift rupturing a nearby power conduit. Janeway convinced Makull to return her phaser, which she used to seal the rift. That prevented the explosion and thus prevented Voyager coming to the planet to investigate it and Janeway and Paris being flung back in time, meaning the timeline was erased. What happened with Makull and his sabotage plans in the new timeline was not revealed.
