NOTE: This article is about the incarnation of the Peacemaker from the DC Extended Universe film series. The mainstream version can be found here: Peacemaker (DC).
I cherish peace with all my heart. I don't care how many men, women and children I need to kill to get it.
„
~ Peacemaker's most famous quote.
“
I don't kill people for nothing, all right? When my brother died, I made a vow... Anyone I'd kill, I'd kill for peace, so unlike Keith, no one would ever die for no reason again.
He is a deranged vigilante who believes in ensuring peace and liberty at all costs no matter how many lives he has to kill or horrible acts he has to commit in order to do so. He joined Task Force X as part of Bloodsport's second team thanks to Amanda Waller offering him a pardon for his crimes if he were to remove all traces of evidence of her involvement with Project Starfish.
While he struck up a rapport with the team, he eventually turned on them when they learned the mission's true nature wasn't to destroy Project Starfish but rather cover up USA's involvement with it. In the attempt to complete his own bargain with Waller, Smith murdered team leader Rick Flag when Flag attempted to make public the incriminating evidence linking USA to Project Starfish, but shortly after he shot by Bloodsport.
Bloodsport used the evidence of Project Starfish to blackmail Waller into letting the team go away free but Peacemaker wasn't included in the bargain due to his previous betrayal. Smith was taken to a hospital to recover for 5 months, after which he was forced to return to Task Force X in order to participate in the mission to destroy Project Butterfly.
He was portrayed by John Cena, who also played himself during his time as a wrestler, Baron Draxum in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Agent Jack Burns in Bumblebee, Jakob Toretto in the Fast & Furious franchise and Rocksteady in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. As a young man, he was portrayed by Quinn Bennett.
~ Rick Flag's last words before succumbing to his wounds at the hands of Peacemaker, showing his disdain for the hypocrisy in his ideology.
Peacemaker is a rude, condescending, obnoxious, and abrasive man who is very literal-minded, although in his own twisted way does try to fight the good fight. He is obsessed with peace and obtaining it all costs, although his way of achieving it contradicts this mindset completely. He is also ruthless, willing to do anything and hurt anyone to get what he wants even if he doesn't want to hurt the person, as demonstrated from the way he talks to Ratcatcher 2 before preparing to kill her. Peacemaker was also very literal-minded and quite overzealous and bombastic in the way he conducted himself.
Peacemaker does have his good qualities however as he does genuinely believe in and want to achieve world peace although goes about it insanely and he does get along with most of his teammates and is genuinely nice to them until he feels they endanger his mission. However, his good qualities are far outweighed by his delusional ideology of achieving world peace through his twisted actions, going so far as to openly admitting his willingness to kill innocent people including children for the sake of his mission. Furthermore, he was reluctant to fight Rick Flag, asking that he hand over the data drive and not make them fight, and later had visible shock and regret over killing him.
After the events of The Suicide Squad Smith began to reflect on his actions: he became completely aware of his many failings and how no one considers him a hero, feeling that he deserves it for pushing everyone away and killing Rick Flag, something he still feels intense guilt for. Despite previously saying he'd be willing to kill children, when Peacemaker is ordered to kill Goff's kids he cannot make himself do it, showing that he still has some form of morality. In the end of his new mission, after killing his father, the cow and the Butterflies, he chose to live up to his name and be a more heroic figure also as a penance for killing Rick Flag.
Christopher is also a huge fan of 1980s Glam Rock and Hair Metal.
Appearance[]
Peacemaker is a tall, handsome, and muscular man with fair skin, brown eyes, slicked-back brown hair, thick eyebrows, and a clean-shaven face. He is typically seen in his supervillain attire, which includes a red short-sleeved shirt with blue accents and his logo in the center, beige trousers tucked into black combat boots, blue gloves, and a blue ammo belt. He often wears a chrome metal helmet with a large horizontal fin designed to protect his head, covering the top half of his face. According to Bloodsport, this helmet resembles a toilet seat more than anything else.

Other Media[]
Mortal Kombat 1[]
Peacemaker appears in the video game Mortal Kombat 1 as a DLC guest fighter (alongside Omni-Man and Homelander) with his physical appearance taken directly from his appearances in The Suicide Squad and the television series of the same name, with John Cena reprising his role through voice and motion capture. In the game, his moveset contains multiple references to his appearances in the DC Extended Universe while his pet bald eagle Eagly and the Butterflies from the Peacemaker television series also appear, with Eagly appearing in many aspects of Peacemaker's gameplay while the Butterflies have a set chance to appear from the opponent's remains after some of Peacemaker's brutalities and his Pest Exterminator fatality.
Trivia[]
This is the first live action adaptation of Peacemaker.
John Cena's description of Peacemaker as a "douchey Captain America" caught on with many fans and has became something of a mild meme.
F9 and The Suicide Squad, both of which John Cena starred in, came out in 2021.
James Gunn originally offered the role of Peacemaker to Dave Bautista as he had done previous films with him, but Bautista had turned it down in for his role in Army of the Dead.
Peacemaker can be considered a foil to Bloodsport, Rick Flag and Superman:
To Bloodsport: both have virtually the same backstory and overlapping combat skills, something Bloodsport even points out. They have an immediate distaste for each other and spend most of their time contesting. However while Bloodsport eventually becomes the team's leader and warms to his comrades, Peacemaker is ultimately loyal to his twisted ideals above all else;
To Rick Flag: both are highly patriotic American heroes, but unlike Peacemaker's patriotism, Flag's patriotism doesn't blind him to his country's abuses, leading him to oppose Peacemaker's attempts to cover up U.S. involvement in the Starro experiments. Peacemaker even gets Flag's old job;
To Superman: both are patriotic, muscular men that wears a symbol of benevolence on his chest. Both have also killed a military man that would turn on his own superiors out of principle and have been seriously injured by Bloodsport. A difference being that Superman only killed Zod because he had no other choice, while Peacemaker killed Rick Flag despite having the option to either cripple him or destroy his leverage.
How Peacemaker hallucinates his father is similar to how his teammate, Polka Dot Man, hallucinates his mother.
This is also an allusion to the character in the comics, who would hallucinate his father during times of stress.
John Cena as Peacemaker will be one of the few castings that will remain the same in James Gunn's upcoming DC Universe reboot.
