Lazarus is peace!
„
~ The Peacemakers' creed.
The Peacemakers are the secondary antagonists of DC's Absolute Universe comic book series, Absolute Superman.
They are the field enforcers of the politics of Lazarus Corp, acting as a militarized police force that abuses and overworks workers of Lazarus' different endeavors all around the globe. Though supposedly peacekeepers, hence their name, the order is composed of mostly corrupt and abusive men who represent all of the tyranny and oppression brought by Lazarus.
Ever since Lazarus started to expand its influence over the world in many areas, the Peacemakers were deployed to make sure all of their demands were concluded perfectly. They constantly belittle and abuse those who work for Lazarus, even physically attacking them, sometimes with brutality, just to speed up the process, even when they are breaking no rules at all.
Their first encounter with Superman occurs when a denouncing of an illegal immigrant is filed on the Kent Farm in Kansas. The Peacemakers soon appear, armed with tanks, guns and other parafernalia, to what they assume is a normal young boy. As Johnatan Kent tries to drive them away, a Peacemaker punches him down, but soon Superman shows himself to have powers, soon fleeing on his foster parents' request.
Kal fought Peacemakers constantly since then, as he travelled around the globe in multiple Lazarus ruled stations. In Brazil, when Kal helps a group of miners mine their diamonds early, preventing them from staying in a dangerous mine, Peacemakers find it suspicious and inquiry them about it. Soon, Kal's location is discovered and he once again has to fight and flee from them. Special Agent Lois Lane handcuffs Superman, and the Peacemakers threaten to shoot him if he doesn't stop trying to take it off, endangering Lois in the proccess.
Later, Lois is shown researching about Superman, and incidentally finds many reports of communities of Peacemaker brutality that she was oblivious to previously. She breaks the fingers of a particularly sadistic Peacemaker, before continuing her investigation. Meanwhile, a Peacemaker named Christopher Smith ends up shooting 23 people dead after he was humiliated by Superman, his colleagues not managing to restrain him until the end. He is brought to Lazarus' Brainiac intelligence, that upgrades him with cybernetic parts. Meanwhile, many Peacemakers are assaulted by Kal El, who is looking for Smith, and nearly kills them before controlling himself.
At Kansas once again, the Peacemakers appear to capture Superman, who is for the first time ever injured by Kryptonite bullets used by Smith. They are prevented, however, due to the actions of the Omega Men, who save Superman, though leave Lois behind, who is quickly held at gunpoint by the Peacemakers and arrested.
In Greenland, the Peacemakers fight Superman, who's been brought there purposefully by Ra's to have him be corrupted into a killer and join his side. Though Ra's was hopeful for otherwise, Kal defeats all Peacemakers in his path non-lethally, though without serenity either. As he defeats Christopher Smith, multiple Peacemakers go to the point of their fight, where they see Ra's attempt to execute Smith, only for Kal save him, as well as the betrayal done by Talia al Ghul on her former allies.
Peacemakers are also slaughtered at tens not much later when General Lane, father of Lois Lane, comes to free his daughter after hearing how she was arrested by Lazarus. The force is then reunited by Ra's and Talia to continue to go after Kal-El, who's returned to Kansas, armed to the teeth and ready to turn the town into a war zone.
