The Peculiar Purple Pieman is the main antagonist of the Strawberry Shortcake franchise. His real name is Steve Piemanne, and he and Sour Grapes form a team to take over Strawberryland.
He has been voiced mainly by Robert Ridgely, but has also been voiced by Dylan Jones and Cork Ramer.
Biography[]
The Purple Pieman was introduced in Strawberry Shortcake's first adventure The World of Strawberry Shortcake, where he succeeded in flooding Strawberryland and stealing all the berries in the valley. This was the closest the Pieman ever came to a decisive victory over Strawberry Shortcake. Later episodes show the Purple Pieman harassing the residents of Strawberryland. In Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City it is said that he has an "evil conscience", but he rarely does anything that is more than "mildly mischievous". He is known for doing a tap dance while saying, "Yah-tah-tah-tah-tah-tah-tah-tah, tah-tah-tah-tah! Cha!" The Purple Pieman has a flock of Berry Birds, which he uses to steal berries and eavesdrop on the denizens of Strawberryland. The largest Berry Bird was originally called Captain Cackle. He is the main antagonist of the Strawberry Shortcake series.
In the 1980s series, the Purple Pieman is shown living in a ramshackle tower of cookware dubbed The Pie Tin Palace, situated high atop Strawberryland on Porcupine Peak. In his tower, he had a wealth of baking supplies, such as ovens, pans, and dough. The Pieman also possessed a magic pie tin, which he sometimes used to spy on the residents of Strawberryland. While he was a clever liar and cheat, and a convincing master of disguise, he was an admittedly poor baker in the 1980s specials. The Purple Pieman frequently referred to himself in the third person, and always performed a quick jig after doing so. In the 2006 film Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Movie he even signs his name with fanfare written in. He later wants to steal dreams not only from Strawberry Shortcake, but others as well, so he goes to the Land of Dreams, making trouble happen. He decides to trap Charlie Dreambuilder in a cage, and forces the Dreambuilders to do as he says, or he will hurt Charlie. Later on, he puts Sandman in the cage alongside Charlie and Sour Grapes lifts them up. When Lemon Meringue turns into a fairy, he orders the Dreambuilders to get her, but they all fail, and she stops the machines. Orange Blossom turns into a gymnast, and frees Charlie and Sandman. Sour Grapes hates the girls for saving the day, saying, "It's like a bad dream!" So he believed one bad dream deserved another. He opens a door filled with nightmares and tries to scare Raspberry Torte with bats, but Strawberry Shortcake encouraged her to think positive for once, so the bats turn into butterflies. Angry, he leaves the Dream Factory, but Strawberry stops him with a bush of strawberries. She and Ginger Snap go in a racecar to stop him. Berry Birds get in their way, but Sleepbug stopped them from doing so. Strawberry Shortcake says he cannot stay in Dreamland anymore. Ginger Snap also added he cannot steal people's dreams, making him give up. Back at the Dream Factory, everybody is mad at him and Sour Grapes. Angel Cake turns into a popstar and sings a lullaby, making Pieman and Sour Grapes fall asleep. Strawberry and Charlie send them back home in a dream, saving the Land of Dreams. Back in Strawberryland, he and Sour Grapes are angry and outraged that they berries did not grow, until Strawberry revealed the most important ingredient; love. Mad at her, he and Sour Grapes leave. He dislikes snakes and Sour Grapes' singing, but hates Strawberry Shortcake's 'Berry Talk' (that is, to substitute "berry" for any word that rhymes) above all else. Mr. Sun describes him as a "misanthropic fathead with a skinny physique" in Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City.

Trivia[]
- The Strawberry Shortcake Nightmare Clone from Strawberry Nightmare from Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City seems to be based on the philosophies that the Peculiar Purple Pieman employs in his 2021 appearance, stealing her friends' ideas and taking their businesses over. Appearance-wise, she is an amalgamation of the real Strawberry Shortcake's (body frame, hair) and the Pieman's (moustache, outfit) designs, and largely has the latter's personality.
- The Purple Pieman made a brief cameo in the TV show Robot Chicken. In it, it's shown that he actually had diabetes and had gone blind from it. Strawberry Shortcake snaps his neck in revenge for all his misdeeds.
- The Purple Pieman is to be planned in Berry Bitty Adventures, but it was moved to comics and 2018 shorts, as well as he serves as a "boss" in mobile game Dress Up Dreams by Budge Studios.
- In 2018 series, he was not living in Berry Bitty City, but he was born in Mesopotamia since thousands of years.
