Alvarez: You, on the other paw, are that crazy dreamer over at Cocoa Loco! Have you come to see how a real business is run?
Hector: What are you trying to say?! That my company isn't real?
Alvarez: Bah! Old methods, respect for this, respect for that... That's not how you do business, little ratlet!
~ Alvarez insulting Hector and his company.
We have work to do here — not like at Cocoa Loco, where you have fun playing with fruit. What will your next invention be? Chocolate-covered insects? Ha, ha, hа!
~ Alvarez letting slip that he sabotaged Cocoa Loco.

Pedro Alvarez is the main antagonist of the book Thea Stilton and the Chocolate Sabotage. He is the owner of the chocolate company ChocoMax, the rival of Cocoa Loco.

History[]

Pedro Alvarez's ChocoMax was the biggest chocolate company in the area of Quito and Otavalo. They used pesticides and farming methods that were harmful to the environment, as opposed to the production methods of the rival company Cocoa Loco. Sometime in the past, Alvarez hired Luz Mendoza, a close friend and business partner of the owners of Cocoa Loco (cousins Antonio and Hector de Moreno), at ChocoMax as his agronomist.

Cocoa Loco and ChocoMax were competing in the Chocolate Cup to determine the best chocolate and chocolate company in Ecuador. Alvarez's motivation for winning the award was to bring lots of investors to his company. He had plans to expand his business with the money, which involved cutting down a part of the forest and turning it into a plantation as well as using super-concentrated chemicals to triple his production. Alvarez also began sabotaging Cocoa Loco's operations. He first ordered a load of fruit, broke into the Cocoa Loco factory and dumped them into a vat of chocolate. When this backfired as Cocoa Loco decided to include fruit in their recipe, Alvarez damaged the central wheel of a toasting machine, but Pamela repaired it. Alvarez then released a plague of insects onto Cocoa Loco's main plantation, though Antonio and Paulina repelled the pests with the help of Antonio's grandfather Imasu.

Nicky, Colette, Violet, Pamela and Hector went to the ChocoMax headquarters to find Luz, whom Hector strongly suspected to be the culprit. They met Alvarez, who did not know where Luz was and taunted Hector about his company. As they were leaving, Alvarez continued to mock him and mentioned the fruit and insects. The Thea Sisters and Hector found his hideout, an abandoned warehouse outside the city where he kept his supplies for sabotage. After some observation, Violet remembered what Alvarez said and deduced he was responsible for the incidents of sabotage since he knew about the fruit in the chocolate.

Paulina concocted a plan to expose Alvarez. The next day, Luz set up a meeting with Alvarez in the warehouse. Alvarez denied her accusations that he had sabotaged Cocoa Loco and warned she could lose her job. When Luz claimed she had photos proving his sabotage, Alvarez demanded she show him. Speaking contemptuously of the Morenos, he talked about his intentions for the prize money and having other plans for sabotaging Cocoa Loco. As Luz continued to refuse to tell him where she kept her evidence, Alvarez called in his two henchmen. As they were ready to force Luz into Alvarez's SUV, Hector, Antonio, the Thea Sisters and the police burst into the room. The Thea Sisters and Luz revealed they had no proof of his sabotage, so they tricked him into confessing in earshot of the police. Alvarez and his accomplices were arrested and taken away.

Personality[]

Alvarez is a ruthless, tyrannical, and greedy individual who is scornful of Cocoa Loco due to their differing methods to make chocolate, despite them being eco-friendly. He is open about his disdain for his competitors and aggressively hot-tempered and intimidating in behavior. He has no concern for how destructive his actions may be to the environment or other rodents, as long as they would ensure personal gain.
