Maria da Penha Chociay, known simply as Penha, is the secondary antagonist of the Monica's Gang franchise.
She is the leader of the Pitanga Tree Girls, a rich and self-centered girl who thinks she is superior to everyone around her, she wants nothing more than to make others submit to her and remain at the top of the social hierarchy no matter how much she lies, manipulates and abuses others. She is Monica's archenemy.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Penha was born in France, and even in the early years, she acted evil and got in trouble with other children, and her parents nicknamed her "The Red Horse of War". When she was two years old, her family moved to Brazil by unknown reasons. She lived in a district called Pitanga Tree, and befriended two girls, mischievous as her, Agnes and Sofia, and together, they formed the Pitanga Tree Girls and their fame as "rulers" of Pitanga Tree district was spread out in the city, as every kid was afraid of even hearing their names
She first met Monica when the latter was going, with her friend Maggy, to an ice cream shop that was selling free ice cream, and was located in the Pitanga Tree district. Monica never heard of any of the Pitanga Tree Girls, but they faced each one of them in their way, and Maggy explained who was each one of them. In the end, they teamed up to bully Monica and Maggy. Sofia and Agnes were defeated, but Penha used her Scorn Glare to make Monica feel useless, almost defeating them, but then Denise, the most self-esteemed girl in Lemon Tree district appeared, and, became immune to Penha's glare, defeating her.
Penha also appeared in "Jimmy's new girlfriend", where Jimmy Five asked her to date him, much to Monica's dismay, and they broke up in the end of the history, and in "Lemon Tree's New Ruler", where she tried to usurpe Monica's post as ruler of Lemon Tree district, but failed again.
Monica Teen[]
Some years after her first appearance, Agnes died, and Penha get depressed, as they were very close, and her family moved to France again. Two years later, Penha found a way of contacting Agnes's spirit, and they made a plan to get revenge on Monica, for every humilation they suffered in childhood because of her, with Penha especially wanting to get Jim Five back with her, as she knew that this would hurt Monica a lot, because they were dating at that time. Penha them made up a video of Monica breaking into an abandoned house, which actually was Agnes's house, and used it to blackmail Jim Five into dating her, or she would show that to the police, and Jim accepted, for Monica's safe.
After Sofia, her informant, stating that Monica was feeling terrible, Penha rejoices, as her plan is doing great, and starts "step 2". Sofia asks her to stop, since Monica already was in the rock bottom, but Penha used her Scorn Glare, stating that Sofia only learned how to talk when she was nine years old, and that she couldn't make her own decisions. Penha contacts a woman named Paullete to prepare a party, where she would deliver the final blow on Monica, revealing the video and making her being arrested.
In the party's day, Sofia, who changed as a person and didn't agreed with Penha's plan, helps Monica in breaking into the party. Penha sees Sofia, who had Monica hidden in her back, and walks to her, forcing Sofia to lean over a wall to hid Monica. Penha finds Sofia's behavior extremely suspicious, as the latter asks if she doesn't want to talk anything about Monica, and uses her Scorn Glare to make her talk. Sofia resists to it, but Monica screams, as Sofia's pressure against the wall was hurting her. Penha tries to warn the guards, but Sofia holds her. Jim Five and Monica break into Penha's office, with Sofia guarding the door to not let Penha enter. While Jim and Monica try to destroy the video with a virus, Penha uses the Scorn Glare on Sofia again. Sofia resists as much as she can, but end up cracking the floor she's on, and knocking herself out. Penha apologizes to Sofia, showing she care at least a bit for her, and invokes Agnes, who traps Jim and Monica before they can totally corrupt the video.
Penha, enters the room with Paulette and mocks Monica for almost defeating her but failing in the last second. Jim confronts her, asking if what she does is for love, because he'd never love someone like her. She sarcastically answers that she never loved him, but everything she was doing was to get revenge on Monica and him for making the biggest humiliation of her life, trading her for a "nobody" like Monica. Extremely angry, Monica asks who gave her permission to play with people lives, and who she think she is. She answers claiming she's the Red Horse of War, and orders Paulette to put the party's big screen, but Paulette refuses, saying she sympathized with the couple Monica and Jim form, and wouldn't like to destroy such love.
Penha orders her to do it again, with her Scorn Glare, but it doesn't have any effect. Paulette reveals herself to be a disguised Denise, the only person who can fully resists to Penha's glare, and that she was trying to find evidences to expose Penha, and she already found it. She puts Penha's confession to Monica and Jim on the big screen, and reveals Penha's true nature to everyone. Furious, Penha order Agnes to kill everybody, which Agnes will do with pleasure, starting with Monica. But before she can do anything, the W.I.N.P.I.G.L.E.A (Winged Pig League), a group of magical creatures appears, with Angelo, the gang's guardian angel, to confront Agnes. During their battle, Angelo's sword falls on the ground, and Penha, recognizing that she has been defeated, grab the sword and charges on Monica, making them both fall from a cliff. Monica successfully grabs on one of the rocks, while Penha falls on a boat, and is put into a coma, and later is hospitalized.
Personality[]
Penha has always been mean, mischievous, and malevolent to others, because of her higher status. She is snob, cocky, and self-centered. Despite this, she can show some care for few people, like Agnes, Sofia, and her parents.
Appearance[]
As a kid, Penha is a little bit taller than the majority of the gang, have light skin, black straight hair and black eyes. She uses a little red dress, with a green jacket, red shoes with yellow little bows, and a red beret. As a teen, Penha uses basically the same outfit, but with slight changes, and now she's basically as tall as the rest of the gang as well.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Scorn Glare: Penha most used and powerful skill, is a deep glare into anyone's eyes, that can instantly destroys the person's self-esteem, and making them submissive to her will. The only two people who have have resisted to this glare, are Sofia, who used all of her free will to resist to it (and even then got incapacitated by technicality, since the effort led to the ground giving beneath her feet), and Denise, who has a such a high self-esteem that it can't be affected by Penha's Glare.
- Manipulation: Penha is a master manipulator, being able to create a plan that involved blackmailing her enemies into doing things that would make other people think other things, creating a huge chain reaction. She has also a huge charisma, and can easily fool people who don't know her true nature on thinking that she's a good person.

- Penha is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, serving as the Red Horse of War. Despite this being a title that her parents gave her, she is already confirmed to be one of them.
- Penia's name is based on her creator Ermeson de Abreu's mother, Penha Maria de Abreu.
- In the graphic novel Monica's Gang: Lessons Penha is reimagined as a much more sympathetic character, and despite still being a snob and a bit cocky, she is friendly and attemps to befriend Monica.
