“ | What about this one? His name was Jason Huntington. He was your best friend in grade school. He was the only other boy you could relate to. He loved pulp magazines and the science fiction pictures. He kept you from feeling isolated. From being without friends. Think I'll take him too. Thanks to the Red Morgue, your friendship with Jason never existed. Jason died when he fell—I mean, when he was pushed—out of his crib. Your childhood is becoming quite bleak. Yes... I wonder if you even remember Jason anymore? Or do you just recall the loneliness? The empty void during your school years. Stretching out each day. Who else, Hourman? Perhaps the first girl you kissed? Shall I erase her from your timeline, too? Shall I erase Wendi Harris? | „ |

“ | Please, Khalid. Just because I am not aware of what you will do, it makes you no more formidable. I am more ENDLESS than the Justice Society. And I will replace you. | „ |

Per Degaton is a DC comics super-villain who is known for his fascist leanings and time-manipulation as a major threat to the Justice Society as well as numerous other heroes from across the DC multiverse - indeed he has been known as a threat capable of "uniting" some heroes and villains due to his alterations of space and time (for example in DC Universe Online both "hero" and "villain" characters oppose his attempts to alter WWII so that the fascists effectively win).
History[]
1940s[]
In 1941, Per Degaton was an assistant to a group of scientists known as the Time Trust. He eventually became obsessed with the concept of time travel. The Trust was working on a ray machine that could transport people through time, and was saved from Nazi spies by the Justice Society ot America, providing Degaton his first meeting to the JSA. By 1942, Degaton was working for Project M, another secret scientific group. During this time, he met Mekanique; a robot from the future out to destroy the All-Star Squadron. She enlisted Degaton's aid in exchange for promised assistance in providing him the secrets of time travel. Though they failed to defeat the heroes, Degaton secretly salvaged Mekanique's robot head and brain, keeping it by his side for the next five years, a lonely period during which they fell in love.
In 1947, Degaton made his living as a laboratory assistant to Professor Malachi Zee, a fomer Trust member who was woriking on his own time machine. Following the instructions of Mekanique, he gave Zee the chrono-crystal that served as Mekanique's time-travel power source. Planning to steal the machine, Degaton then shot Zee, who unexpectedly fell into it and activated it to take him forty years into the future. Degaton lunged to stop the machine but falled to do so. Later, Mekanique proposed that they simply wait four decades for the machine to reappear. However, Degaton was insane and power-mad, eventually burying Mekanique.
Injustice Society[]
He began a short-lived career as an evil para-military commandes, leading an amy of prison escapees in an assault on Washington D.C. as a member of the Injustice Society, but was captured and spent the next three decades in prison. After being released, Degaton was found wandering in the streets as a derelict by his former Injustice Society tearnmate Brainwave. The two allied to destroy the Justice Society, but were defeated and Degaton was sentenced to another prison term, being paroled due to advanced age ten years later.
Free one final time, Degaton reconstructed Mekanique and the two battled Infinity, Inc. at the site of the arrival of Zee's time machine. When it reappeared, it contained not only a dying Professor Zee, but a 1947 version of Degaton. Mekanique explained that during Degaton's original lunge at the machine at it disappeared in 47, the energy created two Degatons, one who lived a normal life and one who came forth in the time machine and carried all Degaton's youthful power-mad insanity. The older Degaton disintegrated instantly due to the paradoxical existence of two Degatons at one moment. The other was killed by Mekanique, who destroyed herself as well rather than be betrayed by a young Degaton once more.
DC Rebirth[]
When the Time Trust sent the Justice Society of America to the future to retrieve a bomb-defense beam, lab assistant Per Degaton sabotaged the beam out of petty jealousy. Later, now working for Professor Zee, he killed Zee and appropriated his time machine in order to conquer the world. Degaton's repeated time meddling brought him into conflict with both the JSA and Infinity, Inc. once again. He later became a member of the Cabal and began stalking Helena Wayne in the future.

Powers and Abilities[]
Per Degaton's Prime Earth counterpart made a deal with the last Lord of Chaos to become a living "ever-altering paradox". So he cannot die.
His New Earth counterpart has no superhuman abilities of his own. He regularly utilizes extremely advanced technologies and time-travel, to the point he can control time itself and grant himself virtual invulnerability from most attempts at attack: he also frequently mimics flight via the use of his hover-platform and employs futuristic pistols, robots and other devices commonly associated with time-travelers and the like.
