Well, if Satan wants them so bad, HE CAN GLUE 'EM BACK TOGETHER!
~ Pestilence wrathfully planning to torture Sam & Dean.
Disease gets a bad rep, don't you think? For being filthy, chaotic. Uh, but, really, that just describes people who get sick. Disease itself... very... pure. Single-minded. Bacteria have one purpose: divide and conquer. That's why, in the end... it always wins. So, you've got to wonder why God pours all his love into something so MESSY... AND WEAK! It's ridiculous. All I can do is show him he's wrong, one epidemic at a time. Now, on a scale of 1 to 10, how's your pain?
~ Pestilence to Sam and Dean Winchester.

Pestilence is a supporting antagonist during Season 5 of the television show Supernatural.

He is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and is a servant of Lucifer. He is the living embodiment of plague and disease. He is the younger brother of Death and the brother of Famine and War.

He is portrayed by Matt Frewer, who also portrayed Panic in Disney's Hercules (both in the movie and the animated series), Chaos in Disney's Aladdin, The Leader in The Incredible Hulk animated series, Jackal in Gargoyles and the Bishop in Netflix's Castlevania.

Biography[]

Pestilence first appears towards the end of the episode "Hammer of the Gods", taking the appearance of a sickly man arriving at an old country drugstore. He is constantly coughing and sneezing and covers all of the store's products in mucus. He picks up an orange box of flu medicine and asks the clerk if the medicine would make him drowsy, saying he had "a lot of driving to do." The clerk says it doesn't, and he goes up to the counter to pay for the medicine, sneezing in the man's face and covering him in mucus. Afterwards, he leaves the store and drives away, no longer coughing or sneezing, and his car is swarmed by flies.

Pestilence returns in the episode "Two Minutes to Midnight" as the main antagonist, where he is posing as a retirement home's resident doctor under the name "Dr. Green". He is seen examining an elderly patient, infecting her with various diseases, and observing the effects they have on her before she dies. When he is alerted by a demon posing as a female nurse that the Winchesters are here, he decides to infect them with various diseases, despite the demon's reminder that Lucifer has ordered them not to be harmed. He greets the Winchesters as they stagger towards his room, suffering from Pestilence's powers and has the demon nurse bring them into the room. He goes on to tell them that he prefers diseases to people, and how he can't understand why God loves something so "messy and weak". As he moves in to finish them off, Castiel arrives and Pestilence is surprised to find that the low-powered angel is now susceptible to his powers. Despite his weakened condition, Castiel manages to cut off his ring finger and kill the demon nurse. As his powers begin to wear off of the trio, he says tells them they're already too late before vanishing.

Sam and Dean later learn that he referred to his and Lucifer's plan to spread the Croatoan virus through shipments of swine flu vaccine. Sam, Castiel, and Bobby Singer foil his plan by killing his demons and blowing up the distribution warehouse before the virus can be sent out.
