| ~ Petra's threat. |
Petra serves as a minor antagonist in the 2009 video game Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – The Director's Cut, and the secondary antagonist of the 2003 video game Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon.
She is an assassin to Susarro, and a double-agent working for The Grand Master, both of whom sought immortality and godlike powers by harnessing the powers of Baphomet.
Appearance[]
Petra is tanned and thin. She has green eyes and blonde hair which is cut into a medium-length bob. She also wears multiple disguises, one of which includes wearing a brown wig. She often wears a cropped, low-cut, black vest and high-rise black trousers and black shoes.
Personality[]
Petra is shown to be devoid of most human emotion, suggesting that she is a sociopath. She has indicated that she derives pleasure from killing people, also suggesting she could be a psychopath as well. She is remorseless, sadistic and manipulative. She seems to have no issue in lying or being a double-agent between the Grand Master and Susarro. At times, she has shown to have a dark sense of humour.
Biography[]
Background[]
Petra is known to be from somewhere in Eastern Europe, but it is never officially confirmed from which region. Little else is known about her life before the franchise other than that she may be vegetarian or vegan, and at some point became an assassin.
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut[]
In the director's cut of the first game in the Broken Sword franchise, Petra poses as Nico's "cousin from Marseilles". In doing so, she leaves a bugging device inside to spy on Nico, who is due to interview Plantard, a defector of the Neo-Templar cult which Petra is involved with. After learning what Pierre had said, he is assassinated by Khan.
Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon[]
After the events of the first game, Petra finds a presumed-dead Grand Master and nurses him back to health. After the collapse of the Neo-Templars, Petra becomes involved with Susarro, who seeks to resurrect the cult and rebrand it the Cult of the Dragon, effectively becoming a new "Grand Master". Remaining loyal to the original leader, Petra feigns loyalty to Susarro whilst aiding the weakened Grand Master to reobtain his powers. Petra learns of a codebreaker, Vernon Billier, who is of use to her goal.
She poses as Nico to interview him and see precisely what he knows about the cult. Once he reveals all he knows, Petra kills Vernon to stop him from telling anyone else. Before Nico arrives to conduct her interview, she hides behind a fridge in an effort to ambush and kill Nico. Nico hits Petra with a frying pan and a fridge door, and almost shoots Nico until her gun jams. Petra flees the scene, chased by Nico.
Petra is later seen in the abandoned theatre. Whilst trying to hide, Nico accidentally makes a sound and is found and restrained by Petra. Petra begins to interrogate her until she and Susarro hear a commotion from below. Petra leaves Nico with Flap whilst the two investigate. After George rescues Nico, the two plan their escape when Petra and Susarro return. Petra aims for the two but her gun jams yet again, allowing George and Nico to flee.
In the Congo, Nico and George successfully retrieve a key held by a scientist involved in the cult. Before they can leave, Petra holds the two at gunpoint and demands they give her the key, but is interrupted when an earthquake occurs. Petra is then seen in Prague, threatening to torture Bruno Ostvald if he does not begin to tell her the location of the Armillary, a device which activates the Dragon Energy which Susarro (and the Grand Master), seek to harness.
After George and Nico arrive in Egypt, the location of the Armillary, they discover Susarro, Petra and Flap have beaten them. A skirmish ensues where Petra and Susarro yet again hold them at gunpoint. Petra asks what she should do with the pair, to which Susarro instructs her to kill them. However, Petra reveals that she has in fact been working for the Grand Master, who then kills Susarro as he is no longer of use to the pair's plans. Petra and the Grand Master leave Bruno, Nico and George in the tomb with Susarro's body to die.
After Nico and George are able to escape, George and Nico encounters Petra in Glastonbury. There, she is in the final stages of assisting the Grand Master in his plans to harness the dragon energy and become godlike. Nico and Petra then fight. The Grand Master, who has now harnessed the dragon energy and become a dragon, hurls an explosive at them. Petra recovers but is severely injured. She sees that the Grand Master has been slain by George. Realising she has no-one to protect her, and no one to be loyal to, she disappears. It is unknown what has happened to Petra since.
Trivia[]
- Petra's name comes from the word "rock", which could refer to her tough disposition.
