No one sent me to follow you, I WISH to follow you. You are our only hope, Prince Karim of Lux Aurea. Lead us back, to glory.
~ Pharos declaring his loyalty to Karim.

Pharos is a supporting antagonist in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. He was the Sunfire High Priest of Lux Aurea, but after the destruction of the city and his queen Khessa's death, Pharos became a pawn corrupted by Aaravos. He would eventually manipulate Prince Karim into restoring the powerful dragon Sol Regem to his former glory, before using the former sun king in Aaravos's plot.

He was voiced by Deven Mack, who also voiced Vangelis in Ninjago, and Grimserver in Dragamonz, Chaos Sonic, Orbot and Cubot in Sonic Prime, Chef Hatchet in 2023's Total Drama Island, and Volk in Dragalia Lost.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Little is known about Pharos' backstory, other than, at some point in his life, he became the high priest of Lux Aurea and would serve Khessa, using his staff on others if Khessa commanded him to.

Book 3: Sun[]

Pharos is first seen when Janai brought Amaya to Khessa to interogate her. When Amaya refused to comply, Khessa ordered Janai to dispose of her. Janai, however, told her that Amaya could be useful to them and told Khessa that Amaya spared her during their battle.

Khessa then decided to give Amaya a chance, and ordered Pharos to use his staff on her. While it was painful for her, Amaya was able to look into the staff's light, which made them see that Amaya had a "pure heart". After this, Khessa ordered Janai to leave with Amaya, telling her to enjoy her "pet".

A few days later, Viren would go to see Khessa, telling her that if she allowed his army through Lux Aurea, he would tell her what happened to her great-grandmother Aditi. Khessa decided to allow him to see her, and has Pharos use his staff on Viren, which revealed that he was a dark magic user.

Because of this, Khessa decided to bring him to the Sunforge, where she tries to "purify" him. However, Viren would release a caterpillar from his mouth, who bit Pharos' neck, which caused Aaravos to take over his body. With it, he corrupted the Sunforge, killed several of Khessa's guards, before killing Khessa herself after taunting her with Aditi's death. Aaravos would then drop Pharos' body after giving Viren his staff.

Book 5: Ocean[]

Sometime after the corruption of the Sunforge and Khessa's death, Pharos lost his title as high priest, and decided to follow Karim after he was exciled. When he met him, he gave Karim water. They would later go meet with Sol Regem, as they believed that he would help them take Lux Aurea back.

Regem, however, refused as he felt he was too weak and hurt from his injuries in the past to do anything much, and ordered Karim and Pharos to leave his cave. Karim then decided to make a plan to steal Janai's Sun Seed so he could heal Sol Regem. Karim then decided to meet Kim'dael so she could steal the Sun Seed for them. Pharos, however, warned him that he shouldn't work with someone as evil as Kim, but he did it anyway.

Kim would later go to the Sunfire camp, and kidnapped Janai to force her allies into giving them the Sun Seed. Pharos would go to the camp to tell them about this, but Amaya refused, and decided to mask herself as Miyana and bring Pharos with her, which tricked Karim. However, Pharos was able to untie himself and leave with Karim, although Janai was rescued. Later, he is seen when Miyana appeared and told Karim that she brought him an army.

Personality[]

Even before his banishment, Pharos was shown to be incredibly fanatical and ruthless. He casually and unempathetically subjected Amaya and Viren to the purity test, shining the bright light of his staff directly into their eyes in a torturous process that would've left them blind, and didn't hesitate to try to incinerate the latter with the sunforges magic. He was shown to be loyal and subservient to Khessa, standing by her side and enforcing her orders without any hesitation. He would show a similar sense of zealous loyalty towards Karim, believing him to be the key to resturning the Sunfire Elves to their former glory, even helping hold Janai, his own queen, hostage and threatening her with death to obtain the sun seed to restore Sol Regem's sight and power.

In spite of his zealotry, Pharos is shown to possess some standards, particularly when it came to working with the sadistic and murderous Kim'dael to get the sun seed, who he rightfully and fearfully regards as evil and untrustworthy. This was the only time he's ever shown to question Karim's methods, although he still cooperates with her on Karim's orders regardless of his standards.

Trivia[]

  • Pharos' name means "beacon" or "lighthouse" in Greek. Given his status as both a former sunfire priest and a powerful mage who channeled the power of Lux Aurea's sun orb through his staff, this is rather fitting.
