Philip Marquard is one of the main antagonists of the dark fantasy MMORPG The Secret World.
Born in South Africa, Marquard acts as the charismatic yet enigmatic leader of the Morninglight, a powerful New Age religious movement and self-help empire. Though physically unseen by the player throughout their experiences in the Secret World, his supreme leadership of the cult as well as his allegiance to The Dreamers ensure his overarching influence in the darkest of conspiracies the player encounters.
Initially serving underneath Lilith (The Secret World) as a mere figurehead and puppet leader of the cult, Marquard conspired with other figures of the cult to usurp Lilith upon swearing his loyalty to the Dreamers in the Congo. This culminated into the occurrence of the Tokyo Incident in Kaidan as an unintended yet favored consequence, as it kickstarted other worldwide disasters and presented opportunities for Marquard to finally achieve his ultimate goal: to awaken his Lovecraftian patrons and bring about the End of Days.
