Phillipe von Triesenberg is a major character in the second story arc of the Netflix series Elite and the titular deuteragonist of its miniseries Elite Short Stories: Phillipe Caye Felipe.
Phillipe is a French-Spanish prince whose public image becomes gradually tainted when alleged sexual assault rumours start resurfacing.
He is portrayed by Pol Granch on his acting debut.
Personality[]
Phillipe is introverted, and does not seem socially-adept as he has difficulty establishing friendships at Las Encinas. He is a rather lonely character and doesn't socialize much with the other students, except for Cayetana. The other students only appear to be interested in talking to him when they want favours from him.
Biography[]
Season 4[]
Phillipe's arrival prompts a lot of controversial measures at the school from both his family and the new principal, Benjamín Blanco, which visibly annoys the student body who think that Phillipe is a snobbish, spoiled person who looks down on "commoners". When Benjamín asks the students to fill in a criminal record form, this angers Rebeka because everyone already knows about her mother's illegal job as a drug lord, not knowing she's still at it despite having promised Rebeka he would leave it. Another measure that is for the boys being forced out of the showers for Phillipe to shower by himself becomes the last straw for the students who, out of protest, leave the classroom upon entering, except for Ari and Patrick. Patrick chastises him, but Phillipe tells them that it wasn't his doing, but Benjamín's. However, Ari accuses the students for their cynicism. Explaining this from experience, Samuel defends Phillipe saying that the measures are his family's fault and they are excluding him, but this angers Guzmán, who thinks he's just defeding him to get on Ari's good graces. Phillipe tells Benjamín that he doesn't want anyone to be expelled because of him and that no one should suffer because their relatives have done something wrong, telling him that his family didn't ask him for most of the security measures they had put in place. However, he agrees to leave the cameras.
Phillipe starts dating Cayetana, the school's cleaner, who is a fan of him. However, Cayetana becomes horrified upon finding out that he recorded himself and her making love and confronts him about it during the Le Bal he is hosting. Phillipe explains that a woman falsely accused him of sexual assault and that this and other recordings are just to make sure that every sexual relation was totally consented. Cayetana seemingly forgives him for this, yet it proves hard for her to trust him and make the relationship work, especially as Ari questions Phillipe about Mencía, who had arrived home with marks on her body (which were from a rough sex client hired by Armando, whom Mencía is having an affair with), but he truthfully denies it, although Ari still warns him to stay away from her. Because of this accusation, Cayetana tries to search for information on the internet about the allegations but finds nothing. Cayetana tells Ari not to accuse anyone without solid evidence, but she states that she has her motives and guys like Phillipe shouldn't be trusted because they don't understand the meaning of the word "no". This comes to a boiling point when Phillipe makes out with Cayetana inside a limousine, but she tells him to stop, to no avail as he keeps on, almost trying to rape her, causing Cayetana to walk out of the car, scared.
Later on, Benjamín catches Phillipe talking to Cayetana, the school's cleaner, and, both of them conversating in French, asks him what he was doing and Phillipe says that he did nothing wrong. Benjamín tells Phillipe that he had brought him for a reason to help him and his family, but reminds him that he has him well watched and that he doesn't want him to cause rumors like the ones he had before in his native country when he was accused of sexual assault. Phillipe demands that he not speak to him in that tone, but Benjamín rethorically asks him again if he had made himself clear before leaving.
Phillipe's mother, Estefanía, arrives to Spain. Talking to Benjamín, he shows her footage of her son and Cayetana. Initially disgusted because of Cayetana's social class, Estefanía requests a meeting with the girl, planning to arrange for her to be Phillipe's girlfriend at New Year's Eve Party. Talking to Cayetana, she justifies Phillipe's behavior as coming from "natural urges" and encourages to forgive him so that she and her family won't have to stay poor for the rest of their days. However, Cayetana at the last minute ignores both Phillipe and Estefanía, pointing out to the latter that her son's behaviour comes from lack of education rather than natural urges, leaving them stunned. Phillipe and his mother then speak privately, with Phillipe blaming her for how she raised him, but she refutes him with the fact that she had always looked after and protected him, also adding that if he wants to grow up, then it would be time for Phillipe to take responsibility for his choices. Phillipe then sends a voice message to Elodie, one of his previous lovers, admitting to having sexually abused her and asking for her forgiveness while acknowledging that it might be too late and tells her to do whatever she thinks is right with the incriminating evidence.
Season 5[]
Phillipe has now become a social pariah at Las Encinas after Elodie leaks the audio left by him on New Year's Eve, which is played at a local party, to the enragement of everyone present. Unable to stand the constant attacks from his peers, Phillipe begs Benjamín to have his parents change schools, but Benjamín refuses as it would seem that he is only proving them right by doing this, also ruining the school's reputation. Cayetana makes a video seen by the students in which he begs Phillipe to stay rather than running away, apalling him.
Nevertheless, he decides to change his ways and attends counseling. However, this plans are foiled by Isadora, a very popular girl he starts seeing, initially to make Cayetana jealous, who manipulates him into returning to his old habits, after he has started to develop real love for her, not knowing that she's attempting to do. While they are having sex in their car, Phillipe suddenly imagines Isadora as Cayetana begging him to stop (recalling the past time he did this to her) and recoils, which leaves her confused.
After Phillipe throws venomous words at her, Isadora decides to travel to Ibiza and party with new kid Iván, the son of a famous football player, and three other boys, Hugo, Javier and Álex for a wild party as a distraction; Phillipe follows them. They all get drunk while continuing the party inside a private room, with Isadora passed out. Hugo, Javier and Álex then proceed to rape her while taking advantage of this. Phillipe and Iván try to stop them but are unable to due to their exhaustion. However, the next day, they don't remeber anything because of the hangover, but while Isadora tells them that "nothing happened" and to get over it, Phillipe and Iván are determined to find out what really happened. Inside a classroom with Isadora, he sees the three same guys and finally deduces that they raped her. Phillipe gets into a fistfight with one of them when confronting him, but Iván stops him. Later on, he goes with Isadora to report the crime to the authorities.
Season 6[]
Phillipe did not appear in the sixth season due to him returning to his principality to resume his duties. He is mentioned a few times regarding Isadora's case of being raped, which remains pending as the authorities have done nothing to seek justice for her and incarcerate the ones responsible. Javier also mentions him when his two other friends force him to lie to Isadora, making her believe that Iván was the main culprit as a way to get her off their shoulders, which makes her question her friendship with him.
Season 8[]
After Joel is murdered by Luis, a corrupt cop, Phillipe is indirectly mentioned by Omar when he brings up the several incidents that happened at Las Encinas, among them sexual assaults (possibly his attempted rape on Cayetana). His speech is recorded in a video in which he rants about the injustice of the school's rich students getting away with their crimes and the authorities turning a blind eye. This leads to the permanent closure of Las Encinas.
Trivia[]
- Phillipe's redemption subplot (and Cayetana's very minor role in it) was met with a lot of backlash from fans on social media, becoming one of the heavily criticized aspects of the fifth season overall.
- Phillipe did not return for the sixth season as his actor, also a singer-songwriter, Pol Granch, would be mainly focusing on his musical career. In-universe, he was mentioned to have returned to his principality.
