~ Dr. Mamoru Torino's warning about Phoenixia. |
Phoenixia is the overarching antagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: Nobita and the Winged Braves. It is a draconic creature that seeks nothing but destruction that was sealed under an icy mountain long ago, but is released by Commander Seagrid to have his revenge on humanity.
Appearance[]
Prior to being hit by the Evolution Ray, Phoenixia is a dinosaur-like dragon of gigantic size with yellow eyes, a bird-like beak, four horns and two wings. Its arms and legs seem to resemble that of a Tyrannosaurus rex. It has brown skin with spots across it. After being transformed, Phoenixia becomes even larger, with its eyes becoming blue and the skins around them becoming red, its horns now looking like traditional horns and being purple, and its skin becoming yellow.
History[]
Past[]
Phoenixia inhabited the planet that would become Birdpia long before Dr. Mamoru Torino arrived and created the Birdpians from his beloved birds. Fearing for the Birdpians' lives, Torino and his Birdpian helpers lured Phoenixia to an icy mountain and sealed it underneath. Torino then left a tablet in ancient Birdpian language to warn later generations about Phoenixia. Over time, Phoenixia's story was considered a myth.
Doraemon: Nobita and the Winged Braves[]
After Professor Hou translates the tablet, Commander Seagrid has him abducted and imprisoned before smashing it into pieces to prevent anyone from learning his true goal: To release Phoenixia and use it to destroy humanity in revenge for one human hunter shooting him years ago. Doraemon restores the tablet, and the main group then deduce Seagrid's true goals. They manage to convince the legendary Birdpian Icarus to free himself to stop Phoenixia.
Upon arriving to the mountain, Seagrid successfully frees Phoenixia via a bomb. However, the heroes alongside the recently-self-released Icarus come to stop them and rescue Suneo, Gian and Professor Hou, and attempt to use the Evolution Ray to devolve the monster to a harmless state. Unfortunately, thanks to Colonel Babylon's intervention, the ray accidentally causes Phoenixia to grow larger. Satisfied with the monster's growth, Seagrid attempts to order it to do his bidding, but Phoenixia attacks him, knocking him unconscious. Thankfully, Icarus rescues Seagrid and asks Babylon to take care of him, before the characters head to stop the dragon.
Phoenixia then arrives to Birdpia and commits destruction en masse, forcing many Birdpians to flee. Icarus fights it, but is injured in the process. The group then decide to lure Phoenixia to the top of the Perched Tree, where Dr. Torino's time machine lies. Phoenixia then attacks Nobita and causes his Birdpian hat to drop, although thankfully Gusuke saves him while also learning to fly in the process. Nobita, Doraemon and Gusuke then successfully lure Phoenixia to the top of the tree and attack it with the time machine's weapons to no avail. As the attacks fail, Doraemon instead transports the time machine with Phoenixia back to billions of years in the past, saving Birdpia.

Trivia[]
- Phoenixia's name is a pun on "phoenix", a mythological bird associated with fire, alluding to its ability to breath fire and status as a threat to Birdpia.
- Phoenixia is the second dragon of a Doraemon feature film to be used by the main villain for his own ends, following Leviathan and preceding Mafuga. However, unlike the other two which were created by their respective movies' main villains, Phoenixia has existed long before Commander Seagrid was even born.
