1163's temperament is like that of a rabid animal. It snaps at perceived motion, eats whatever fits in its mouth regardless of appetite, combats the conditioning staff, and it CANNOT even play its insipid piano rhythms in TUNE (perhaps one of the others from its line would have presented better music). Had any of these actions been the result of conscious thought, perhaps I would be intrigued. I am not intrigued.
~ Harley Sawyer about Pianosaurus in a note.

Playtime Co. Experiment-1163: Pianosaurus is a minor antagonist in Safe Haven, the fourth chapter of the 2021 indie horror video game Poppy Playtime.

He is a monstrous dinosaur and feral version of the toy of the same name that was created by Playtime Co. as part of the Bigger Bodies Initiative. Found to be a failure by Harley Sawyer, he had it used for testing purposes.

He was voiced by Alex Rochon in his character cutout in Chapter 4: Safe Haven.

Appearance[]

Pianosaurus, true to his name, is a green piano-dinosaur hybrid, with a bipedal shape (in a theropod-like stance) with piano keys, starting from his mouth and runs down to the entire underside of his body and to his tail. His head has small chameleon-like black eyes, a red horn on the right, an orange one in the middle, and a yellow one on the right. He also has a flattened snout with a tiny yellow spike, and pink blushes on the corners of his mouth.

His neck is long with four multicolored spikes, while its torso is much larger and rounder with smaller spikes along his back that run down its long tail, which ends in what appears to be a club. Pianosaurus' front legs are long and lanky, but the forearms are bigger and more robust, ending in three multicolored claws. The back legs are slightly larger and look bird-like, also ending in three claws. Overall, both his claws and spikes form a full rainbow of colors.

Personality[]

The fictional version of Pianosaurus is depicted as a friendly mascot who loves music and likes to come up with and perform songs for children to enjoy. He also seems to have a habit of singing while talking. According to the monster version's prison file, its behavior is that of a feral predator, eating whatever can fit into his mouth, regardless of his appetite, and is known to fight with Playtime Co. employees. He was also quick-to-provoke, as he will immediately become aggressive towards anything that moves. This was what led Harley Sawyer to call him a failure since the niche of a fierce predator among the Bigger Bodies experiments was already filled in by Boxy Boo.

Biography[]

Past[]

Pianosaurus' past is very unknown, but It's implied he was an orphan child turned into an experiment during the Bigger Bodies Initiative. However, Harley Sawyer considered him a failure and reassigned him to testing. On August 8, 1995, all the experiments (including Pianosaurus) caused a massive rebellion known as The Hour of Joy, killing all the employees and scientists of Playtime. Co by the Prototype's commands.

Pianosaurus' Day-In-The-Life Comics[]

Sometime from December 14, 2004 to 2005, Pianosaurus was envisioning himself to perform a music show for everyone on stage. A mini Hoppy Hopscotch had heard some music through a door and joined the dancing fun with Pianosaurus. But in a dark turn, Pianosaurus had accidentally crushed her, and Doey the Doughman witnessed the incident. Doey furiously banished him from Safe Haven, and Pianosaurus sadly walks away.

When time skipped to happen on mid-2005, Pianosaurus travelled to the Prison Utility Zone and spotted some Nightmare Critters emerging from their hiding spots, making them to put on a dancing concert. Suddenly, just like the mini Hoppy Hopscotch, Pianosaurus accidentally started crushing them one at a time as they attempted to watch his performance, and Pianosaurus again sadly walks away as he wants someone to dance with.

Eventually, Pianosaurus wandered back to his enclosure and feasted on the corpse of the Bobby BearHug toy until The Intruder had slipped into the enclosure while navigating through the narrow ledge, and that's when Doey killed Pianosaurus as revenge for his dancing antics in the events of the game.

Chapter 4: Safe Haven[]

Pianosaurus appears in a dark room feasting on the dead toy before turning the attention to the player. From far away, he charges and runs towards the player in an attempt to kill them. However, before Pianosaurus could hurt them, he is grappled by Doey the Doughman's tentacles, who brutally smashes him into the floor and the walls killing him and eating his corpse.

Trivia[]

  • Pianosaurus is based on the "cat piano".
  • Pianosaurus is currently the only monster with the shortest amount of time shown alive, as he only has one very brief encounter with The Player before being snatched up, killed, and eaten by Doey.
    • Due to there being quite the amount of promotional material building him up, this resulted in some controversy in the community who were disappointed at Pianosaurus’ wasted potential.
    • On Mob's Entertainment social media, they created a series of illustrated comics panels, showcasing a full-on potential on Pianosaurus' story to satisfy fans for their disappointment, and the comics are truly canon in the game's events.
      • In the comics, it is revealed that the reason why Pianosaurus was acting like a killing machine was because he had Schizophrenia, viewing the factory as a childlike and innocent world.
  • Pianosaurus' eyes resemble the eyes of chameleons, making it possible that they could work similarly.
  • Pianosaurus shares numerous traits from dfferent dinosaurs:
    • His stance is similar to a theropod, likely a spinosaurid, a tyrannosaurid, or a raptor.
    • His claws are similar to those of therizinosaurs.
    • His horns are similar to Triceratops horns.
    • The spikes on his back are similar to a stegosaurid's back plating.
    • The tail "club" is similar to an Ankylosaurus's tail club.
  • On further observation, Pianosaurus is barely taller than The Player. He only appears bigger than he is during his death cutscene due to the camera angle.
