Pickle is a supporting character in Baki the Grappler franchise, serving as the main antagonist of Pickle Wars Saga of Baki - Son of Ogre manga series, as well as its anime adaptation from 2023.
Ancient humanoid from Mesozoic Era, Pickle was the apex predator of his ecosystem, hunting ginormous dinosaurs. One day, he was frozen solid when an asteroid collided with Earth, reducing planet's temperature to absolute zero. In 2000, Pickle was found by human civilization perfectly preserved in saline rock formation, in the middle of a fight with Tyrannosaurus. Deemed invaluable by scientists, Pickle was challenged by various martial artists after he revealed his existence to the world by raping a reporter on live television.
Physical Appearance[]
Pickle is an eight-foot-tall, lanky yet powerfully-built humanoid with tanned skin, slouched posture, delicate facial features, black shoulder-length hair, golden-yellow eyes, broad neck, knee-long arms and legs with particularly large calves, as well as sharp canines in his jaw. He is usually naked, but after his fight with Kaiou Retsu, he starts wearing a simple underwear. After assaulting Takeshi Kenmochi, he stole his clothes, wearing a cap, a blouse with dragon pattern, loose pants and Nike shoes.
Personality[]
Pickle is sapient, amoral and extremely adaptable, in spite of living his entire life in a Mesozoic Era, he was able to blend in the crowd and understand the basic rules behind human civilization. Fitting his appearance, he is typically docile and non-agressive when not attacked, preferring to sit alone in the corner of underground arena. However, when threatened, Pickle is hostile and extremely ferocious, relentlessly mutilating his opponents to unconsciousness and death to eat them later on. He appears to have some sort of anthropomorphic gestures, as he shook hands with Kaiou Retsu prior to their fight. This does not guarantee safety around him, as he was seen raping a female reporter during his interview, for which he felt no guilt nor remorse, as he saw it as a natural thing to do.
Pickle has a habit of often crying during his battles. This is because he seeks out powerful opponents that could give him a good fight, and after winning, Pickle would devour them as a sign of love. He also shows signs of religion, as seen when he started praying over Katsumi Orochi's unconscious body. He would sometimes express joy through dancing, as seen during his fight with Jack Hanma and after knocking Baki senseless during their initial encounter.
Powers and Abilities[]
Caveman physiology: Pickle originates from unknown primate species that lived in a Jurassic Period 190 million years ago. Living in a dangerous environment filled with bloodthirsty dinosaurs, Pickle evolved to single-handedly take down prey several hundred times his size, developing highly effective musculature and natural weaponry, such as fangs and claws.
- Supernatural strength: Pickle is naturally stronger in terms of physical strength than practically any human in Baki the Grappler universe, being able to squish bones to a pulp with one hand and dismember humans, toss police cars, demolish The Multi-Purpose Battle Machine with one blow, crush a Siberian tiger in a bear-hug, tear apart a truck and flip over a Triceratops. In terms of fighting, he was able to knock Kaiou Retsu to the ground hard enough to make a crack with lazy swing, send Jack Hanma flying with just his jaw strength alone, overpower and push back Kaoru Hanayama, as well as equal Yujiro Hanma in a test of strength, forcing him to use the technique.
- Supernatural durability: Similar to Biscuit Oliva, Pickle is nearly impervious to physical damage, preferring to tank blows over dodging or blocking them. He is not fazed at all by standard blows from ordinary humans and martial artists, can withstand gunfire from point-blank range, survive falls from great heights and extreme cold, which was demonstrated when he was frozen by absolute zero temperatures. When hit by a truck at full speed, Pickle was merely knocked back, recovering within seconds and proceeding to charge head-first into a said vehicle, demolishing it. Since caveman was unfazed by his standard blows, Katsumi Orochi was forced to utilize Hitless Blow technique, a hit fast enough to break the sound barrier, damaging his own arm beyond repair, knocking Pickle unconscious for a moment.
- Concussion immunity: Because his nape is build akin to a buffalo, Pickle is practically immune to concussion, as noted by Jack Hanma when he send him flying at 18 meters with a full-force blow to the chin.
- Supernatural speed/Quadrupedalism: In spite of massive frame, Pickle is also one of the fastest fighters in the series. Starting out his life as a quadrupedal being and gradually becoming a bipedal over the course of his early life, Pickle uses his signature move by standing on all fours as close to the ground as possible, then launches himself at blitzing speed and extreme distance. Using this technique, Pickle was able to leave Kaiou Retsu stuck in the wall and instantaneously dismember Katsumi Orochi before he could even feel anything.
- Supernatural agility: Pickle actively utilizes his environment as an advantage during his fights, as he bounced off a tree during his fight with Tyrannosaurus in the flashback, later bouncing off from walls in underground arena to dodge the attacks from both Baki and Jack.
- Supernatural immune system: Prior to his fight with Katsumi Orochi, doctor Albert Payne mentioned having to use fourteen hundred barrels full of chloroform to temporarily put Pickle to sleep by pouring the liquid to the arena when the caveman was distracted.
