History[]
As part of a plot with Cobra Commander, Pierre LaFonte hosts a martial arts tournament in Manila, having his minions kidnap the participants and take them to him. Among those invited to participate was G.I. Joe member Wet Suit, but Sgt. Slaughter assumed his identity and entered the tournament instead. As Slaughter proved to be a formidable competitor, LaFonte explains that the winner will serve Cobra as an assassin.
Later, Wet Suit is captured by LaFonte's henchmen as G.I. Joe is searching for Sgt. Slaughter. After Slaughter defeats his opponents, LaFonte compliments him and tells him his prowess far exceeds the information in his files. LaFonte's thugs then bring in Wet Suit, whom LaFonte orders Sgt. Slaughter to kill as his final test. The two Joes pretend to fight, until Cobra Commander and Storm Shadow arrive. Surprised at his arrival, LaFonte shows Cobra Commander the assassin as requested, and much to his shock, learns the true identity of Sgt. Slaughter. Cobra Commander throws and stomps on LaFonte as punishment for failure, vowing they will meet again before escaping with Storm Shadow. When Sgt. Slaughter asks the arrested LaFonte whom he was hired to assassinate, LaFonte reveals it was Serpentor.
