Pirantishead was the Piranha-themed monster of the Evil Space Aliens, the first to serve Lord Zedd and a minor antagonist in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He served as the main antagonist of the three-part episode "The Mutiny" and a supporting antagonist in the episode "A Reel Fish Story."
He was voiced by the late Scott Page-Pagter who previously voiced the Peckster, the Oysterizer and later voiced the 3rd member of the Plague Patrol and the Face Stealer also in MMPR, Fortissimodo in Power Rangers Zeo, Porto in Power Rangers Turbo and Steelon in Power Rangers Wild Force.
Biography[]
After Lord Zedd banishes Rita Repulsa and takes control of the Evil Space Aliens, he creates the most powerful monster yet seen Pirantishead from a piranha. Pirantishead's ultimate plan is to destroy the Power Rangers so that Zedd can prove his superiority over Rita, sitting atop a skyscraper and blasting Angel Grove. When the Rangers show up, they summon the Dinozords but Pirantishead uses his flute to freeze the Mastodon, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, and Saber-Toothed Tiger Dinozords, then take control of the Dragonzord and Tyrannosaurus Dinozord to use against the Power Rangers.
After being forced to escape, Billy begins creating a device capable of regaining control of the two Zords and the rangers fire the Power Blaster at the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord and then Pirantishead to buy some time. The piranha monster panicks at first, but the blast mostly misses him, instead hitting his feet and he seems on the verge of defeat. The Dinozords are restored but Lord Zedd tries to bury them deep within the Earth and enlarges Pirantishead although Alpha manages to save some of the Zords and transform them into the new Thunderzords. The Power Rangers quickly take the controls of these new Zords and succeed in destroying Pirantishead with the Thunder Megazord.
Later, Zedd summons a number of aquatic based monsters, one of which is Pirantishead, but he is destroyed by Tommy and Saba.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: Pirantishead was amongst the most powerful of Monsters faced in MMPR, being able to overwhelm the Rangers and even the Thunder Megazord. However, he did mainly rely on the Dinozords in combat.
- Durability: Pirantishead has extremely thick fish scale like skin that meant that, when blasted by the Power Blaster, he only performed an Irish jig.
- Skilled Fighter: Pirantishead was a skilled enough fighter to easily be able to defeat the Rangers using both his weapons, skill and the Zords.
Arsenal[]
- Nunchak Flutes: Pirantishead wielded a pair of flutes that were connected by chains and doubled as nunchucks to use in combat. However, thier main function was controlling the Zords.
- Energy Blasts: Pirantishead could play his flute to unleash energy blasts powerful enough to take down all five Rangers and cause large explosions in the city.
- Machine Control: Pirantishead could play his flute and blast Zords with a white mist that allowed his complete control over them.
- Machine Freezing: Pirantishead could freeze machines in time using this same technique, as shown when he performed this on the other Dinozords.
- Chain Wrap: Pirantishead could throw his chain which makes it wrap around his enemies, as shown when he did this to the Thunder Megazord.
- Electrocution: Pirantishead could slam his fist down on the chain to send an electrical charge along it that electrocuted the Thunder Megazord.
- Fins: Pirantishead had large and razor sharp fins protruding from his elbows that he claimed he would use to "tear apart" the Thunder Megazord but was destroyed before he could use them.
Trivia[]
- Pirantishead came from what is commonly referred to as Zyu2 footage, and was not seen in the original Zyuranger and was originally supposed to have been destroyed by the original Ultrazord. This is still evident with the superimposed explosion over his face.
