The Pirate Gooms are members of the Black Sugar Gang and recurring minor antagonists in the Wario Land series. They are a variant of Wanderin' Gooms and spear-wielding pirates who seek to loot all treasure on Kitchen Island and hinder Wario in his quest to take the Black Sugar Gang down. They are also the main henchmen of Captain Syrup.

While normally encountered as common enemies in the first half of the Wario Land series, three nameless Pirate Gooms are introduced as the secondary antagonists of Wario Land II, serving as Captain Syrup's assistants.

Biography

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

Pirate Gooms appeared as regular enemies in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, they have a simple attack strategy, moving back and forth and attempting to stab Wario with their spears. They are quickly dispatched by Wario not unlike any other enemy.

Wario Land II

Pirate Gooms return, Although a group of Pirate Gooms and a giant Pirate Goom known as Giant Spear Man appear as main antagonists in the game, regular Pirate Gooms still serve as common enemies. Though their behavior does not have any differences from how they behaved in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.

Appearance

The Pirate Gooms resemble Wanderin' Gooms, but without any of their cat-like features, are brown-colored, and have arms unlike Wanderin' Gooms. They wield a spear, which is their signature weapon. In Wario Land II, they wear a pirate headband which they did not have in the first game, and change their weapon of choice from a spear to a trident.

Personality

Most of the Pirate Gooms seem to be simply doing their job, guarding treasure and attacking Wario. When they are knocked over, they appear to be screaming.

Trivia

• Pirate Goom, D.D., Gau Gau, Pekan and White Puff are the only enemies and members of the Black Sugar Gang from Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 to reappear in Wario Land II.
• Despite being primary antagonists, the three main Pirate Gooms are nowhere to be seen in Syrup Castle, and are never fought as bosses.
• The Bandineros from Wario Land: Shake It! bear a certain physical resemblance to the Pirate Gooms.
