“ | You see all these lovely people? Every single one of them is here because they love me. And they have no bloody idea who the hell you are! | „ |
~ Pete Whipple revealing his selfish egotism to his son. |
“ | Nice speech, but you left out one small detail: you're a loser, Wade. You always have been and you always will be. | „ |
~ Pete Whipple revealing his true feelings toward his son during their final tournament. |
Peter "Pistol Pete" Whipple is one of the two main antagonists (along with The Buyer) of the 2024 Paramount+ live-action/animated action-adventure miniseries Knuckles, which is part of the Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe.
He is a 27 time bowling champion and the estranged father of Wade and Wanda Whipple. He also left his former wife Wendy Whipple. Having abandoned his family to pursue his bowling career, he is reunited with his son who wished to reconnect and with in the Reno bowling competition. While at first appearing to regret his mistakes, Pete reveals himself to be a self-serving narcissist who sells out his family to the corrupt G.U.N. agents so that he would win the tournament. He is Wade's former idol turned arch-nemesis. [1]
He was portrayed by Cary Elwes, who also played Donald Curtis in the English dub of Porco Rosso, William Boone in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, Dr. Jonas Miller in Twister, Casanova in Kiss the Girls, Paxton Powers in Batman Beyond, Sir Edgar in Ella Enchanted, Ted Bundy in The Riverman, Lawrence Gordon in the Saw franchise, Aquaman in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Larry Kline in Stranger Things and Denlinger in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.
Personality[]
At first, Pete Whipple came off as kind and polite when reuniting with his son, claiming that he wanted to reconnect with his son after all his years of neglect. However, later revealing his true nature, he is actually a greedy, arrogant, selfish, cocky and self-centered person, viewing his fame and self-image as more important than his own flesh and blood. When on the bowling courts, he is very competitive and willing to resort to verbal tirades with his opponents, such as when he called Wade a loser to his face and the way he told Susie to be silent by calling her a brat. When facing defeat, he is a very sore loser, such as when he tried to steal Wade's trophy, rather than accept that he had lost fair and square. Underneath his swagger and facade, he is an immature and cowardly man-child who is unable to accept failure in any shape or form.
History[]
Past[]
Prior to Knuckles, Pete is the father of Wade and Wanda Whipple. Pete left Wade at T.J. Max as his excuse was he wanted to search for something, but most likely chose his career over his own son.
Reno Baby[]
In Reno Baby, Wade and Pete reunite and when Wade told him he was going to participate he started laughing. Feigning remorse for his abandonment, Pete then said after the game they will make up for lost time, with a quick montage showing the bowling game as Pete and Wade make it to the finals. When Wade is invited to Pete's penthouse Wade is surprised at the layout. Pete and Wade started talking and Pete tells him he's sorry for a different reason. It's revealed that Pete was the person who tipped off the rogue gun agents to trap Wendy and Wanda Whipple. Heartbroken, Wade asks why, with Pete callously revealing that he wants Wade out of the tournament so that he can win. He then disrespects Wendy by saying that he never respected him, with her calling him a Schmuck. Pete then threatened Wade that if he doesn't bring Knuckles, the agents will do nasty stuff to people he loves.
What Happens in Reno, Stays in Reno[]
In What Happens in Reno, Stays in Reno, the finals begins as Pete makes another of his flashy entrance, but the people are uncertain if Wade is going to appear. So, Pete arrogantly claims that he is still the champion until Wade suddenly walks in. Pete and Wade face off in an intense bowling match, with each of them trading verbal insults. As Wade finally stands up to him and acknowledges the people that truly care about him, Pete harshly calls Wade a loser. The game starts with Pete in the lead, until a last minute strike by Wade wins the game. After the game and Knuckle's final battle with The Buyer, Pete hides behind a table as he seizes the moment and attempts to steal the trophy as Wendy and Wanda stop him. Wendy punches Pete in the face just as Knuckles arrives and him and Wade jump for a high five. [2] It is unknown what happened to Pete after this, although it is likely that he was exposed by Wade and Knuckles, noting that the commentators had also seen him trying to steal the trophy and thus arrested for his crimes.

Trivia[]
- He is called shmuck for by most of the characters, which is fitting considering his selfish and uncaring nature.
- He's the only character in the show who has no physical interactions with Knuckles, with him serving as a personal foil to his son Wade Whipple:
- Both want people to respect them and have lofty ideas about themselves, but in reality they are immature.
- Both are very insecure, with desires to be more than they are, driving their actions.
- Both are very competitive bowlers.
- Both search for something that they believe are missing from their lives.
- However, the difference between them is that Wade learned self-respect and courage through his family and Knuckles' guidance, while Pete irresponsibly abandoned his parental responsibilities to pursue a shallow career as a charlatan just to get other people to like him while leaving his family behind.
- He serves as a dark reflection of what Wade could've become if he let his low self-esteem estrange himself from the people he truly cared about, making Wade a better man than Pete would ever be.
- He also serves as a dark reflection to Tom Wachowski (who planned to leave Green Hills to join the San Francisco Police Department) of what he might have become if he had never met Sonic.
- Similar to Jack Sinclair, he's never seen interacting with Knuckles.
- Pistol Pete Whipple looks very similar to Collin Gubbins another character Cary plays in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare that came out the same month as Knuckles. they both have the same hair a mustache and a black suit. only one was based off a real person the other is made up which is Pete
