Plaguebearers ( Aghkam'ghran'ngi in Dark Tongue), also called Nurgle's Tallymen and Horned Rotbags, are the Lesser Daemons of the Chaos God Nurgle. They are his rank and file and are potentially some the most numerous of the Lesser Daemons, with the Plague God's Census legions said to outnumber his brother's armies combined.

~ Daemons of Nurgle[1] |
Out of the four lesser daemons, Plaguebearers are by far the most durable and can shrug off even the most grevious of wounds. As well as being blessed with a decreased or perhaps even absent sense for pain, all Plaguebearers were once mortal.
Nurgle's Rot, the finest of all Nurgle's diseases, is a soul plague that affects a mortal for weeks, months, even years. This plague never kills, increasing in agony and weakening the resolve of the infected until they wilingly surrender their soul to Nurgle. Only then does the Plaguelord grant death and the mortal awakens to it's new life within the Garden of Blight. The longer a mortal with this disease holds out in life, the higher in Nurgle's favor they climb, and the stronger daemon they are when they reincarnate. The strongest Plagebearers granted semblances of sentience, riding Palanquins and Rotflies into battle as Plagueridden or even Heralds of Nurgle.[2]
Plaguebearers can also be spawned into existence directly, bypassing the cycle of death, rebirth in Nurgle's garden, and summoning into the world of mortals altogether by power Chosen of Nurgle. Bleda of the Veh-Kung, called Tabernacle of the Divine Rot, was one such Chaos Chosen who was able to do this, infecting his followers with daemonic essence and transforming them into daemons.[3]
Other Lesser Daemons are the Bloodletters of Khorne, Daemonettes of Slaanesh, and the Horrors of Tzeentch.
Characteristics[]
“ | The rank and file of Nurgle’s legions, crafted from the soul-stuff of mortals who have been slain by Nurgle’s Rot. What little of the Plaguebearer’s skin that can be seen beneath the discharge of innumerable sores is tinged with suppurant greens and vile browns. Pus weeps continuously from its single bloodshot eye and from the Daemon’s forehead protrudes a single horn – the mark of Nurgle’s Rot. Units of Plaguebearers are surrounded by a constant drone, created by the attendant hosts of plump black flies. | „ |

Plaguebearers of Nurgle.
Plaguebearers are vaguely humanoid daemons with greenish or brownish skin blemished with signs of infestation and disease. Their bloated, bent, and half-rotted bodies are torn in several places and from these tears poke bones and even organs. Ropey guts spill from the daemon, or else a tooth-bearing maw opens up about the abdomen. Many have a single, primary eye as well as a massive horn that sprouts from the head. These daemons have a proclivity towards counting and will begin to tally anything that sits still long enough, although this is ultimately a task they do in vain. The plaguebearer has a low voice and when counting in unison the air vibrates with a sonorous quality that causes anyone within earshot to become neaseated and uncomfortable.[5]
Nurgle values resilience, and so these daemons are; of the Lesser Daemons of Chaos, the Plaguebearer is distinctly hard to kill. Some scholars credit this to their previous existence as mortals, theorizing that their origin means they have a firmer grasp on the Mortal Plane that other daemons, who originate from the Realm of Chaos.[6] These daemons are also strong, hacking down foes with their disease-ridden baleswords.[7]
