~ Plasma as he prepares to blow up a building to kill all the Darkcom soldiers in it. |
Plasma is a major antagonist in the first season of Netflix's 2025 animated action fantasy series Devil May Cry. He is based on the species of the same name from the video games.
He is a shapeshifting creature from Makai, who helps the White Rabbit in his plan to get Dante's half of the amulet that will break the barrier between Makai and the human realm. He ends up dying in an explosion caused by himself to wipe out the Dark Realm Command soldiers after they executed makaian civilians.
He was voiced by Roger L. Jackson, who voices Mojo Jojo in The Powerpuff Girls, Ghostface in the Scream franchise, Wizeman in NiGHTS, Nohman in Zone of the Enders, Governor Phatt in Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, Harkin in Mass Effect, and Green Goblin and the Lizard in Spider-Man: Friend or Foe.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Little is known about Plasma's past, only that he was a shapeshifter born in Makai, who eventually met the White Rabbit and decided to aid him in his goal to break the barrier between Makai and the human realm so the people of the former could escape from their painful realm and have better lives. To do so, they needed, among other things, to find Dante, get his part of the amulet that would allow their group to break the barrier, get Dante to obtain his Devil Trigger, and then obtain his blood. As such, Plasma went after Dante.
Netflix's Devil May Cry[]
To get to Dante, Plasma disguised itself as an infant named Emily while her mother was distracted. When Dante appeared to save the two from low-level makaians, Plasma kept up acting like the baby until Dante was distracted, leading to him attacking Dante. However, when Dante tried to shoot him, Emily's mother, thinking he was trying to shoot her child, hit him with her purse before running away.
The next day, Plasma attacked a restaurant Dante was in, faking being his seeming dead brother Vergil, but the façade ends quickly once Dante repeatedly shoots him. Plasma and Dante would then have a fight where the former tries to steal Dante's amulet. However, he was unable to, but ends up escaping while pointing out that Dante doesn't know what he is.
After Dante was captured by Darkcom, Plasma took part in a plan to get Dante's amulet by causing the truck Dante was being transported in to stop through taking the form of a traffic stop officer and causing the cars on the road to stop moving. The building next to the truck was then blown, taking out several of the Darkcom agents, and those who survived were faced by him, Agni, Rudra, Echidna, and Cavaliere Angelo.
While everyone else left after getting Enzo Ferino and the amulet, Plasma decided to stay in the area, killing a Darkcom soldier while keeping another alive to take over his form and infiltrate in Darkcom's group. Taking over the place of Officer Anders after the latter's injury to the White Rabbit.
While with the group, Plasma would help in leading them to a trap where all except Lady were slaughtered by his allies, with him hidding while it happened. After this, he would go to kill Mary, and finds her in the experiment room where several makaians were tested on and killed by the White Rabbit.
Plasma decides to keep his façade of being a Darkcom soldier, and during it, he tries to shut down her argument that the supposed demons who were hidding behind the doors of the building they were in were any different than the "demons" they fought. However, during this, he refers to his realm as Makai, rather than the Demon Realm like every other soldier did, blowing up his cover.
This leads to Plasma fighting Lady, and when he was about to kill her, Lady offered to allow him to take her form to infiltrate Darkcom, leading to him changing his form, and when Echidna appeared, mistaking Plasma for Lady and shooting spikes at him, nearly killing him. However, he was able to survive, and when he heard Darkcom soldiers approaching, decided to return into faking being a Darkcom soldier, which allowed him to pass through them and get to the building's vigilance room.
There, a horrified Plasma watches as dozens of unarmed makaians are shot to death by Darkcom soldiers, leading Plasma to become furious and say that while the makaians may not be able to take over their realm, they can still show humanity "hell", before blowing up the building, killing all the Darkcom soldiers there and himself.
Personality[]
Plasma is good at adapting a persona that fits his mission, ranging from infants to adults to soldiers. He despises humanity for their killing of his kind, and wants to help the White Rabbit in breaking the barrier between Makai and the human realm to free his people from Mundus' oppression. Like most of the other makaians in the White Rabbit's team, he can sometimes get into arguments with his allies, most notably Echidna.
Plasma genuinely believes that all his people are the same, and dislikes the idea that just because some are unarmed and non-hostile towards humans that it makes them different. He is horrified by the atrocities Darkcom commits, being left in shock when Darkcom soldiers murder makaian civilians, including children and infants, and died making sure that they would be avenged.
