Player 296 is a minor antagonist of the Netflix K-Drama Squid Game. He is a player in the 37th Squid Games and member of Team O.

He is portrayed by Woo Kang-min.

Biography[]

Player 296 is a South Korean man who ended up in large amounts of debt, leading him to participate in the 2024 Squid Games. He gets through the first 3 games fine, then participates in the riot against Team X after the bathroom fight. During the night, he personally stabs and throws Player 320 at the start, then is later seen stabbing Player 102. When the fighting breaks up, he hides behind Lee Seung-won, using him as a human shield, so he doesn't risk getting shot.

He joins Im Jeong-dae and Kim Yeong-sam in mocking Gi-hun after his rebellion fails. During Hide and Seek, he ends up on the Seekers team, but ends up failing to find a Hider in time. Once the VIPs arrive in the arena to kill losing seekers, he hides in a room and tries to kill VIP Richard with his knife, only to be shot by Jennifer instead.

Trivia[]

  • He's the only known player to have interacted with the VIPs and to be killed by them directly.
  • His death is similar to No Sang-hun's, since both attempted to attack the game staff out of desperation. The difference is that 296 was killed while Sang-hun kill himself, and 296's target live while Sang-hun's target later died.
  • 296 is one of the few O who managed to kill more than one Xs during the massacre. Ironically, he failed to kill anyone during Hide-and-Seek.
