Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
Polar Bear has been targeted for termination for the following reason(s): not a villain + generic mook-type enemy Please discuss it on the talk page for this article.
This bizarre beast appears whenever the Ice Climbers take five during their ascents. Each leap the upright bear makes causes an earthquake and makes the mountain scroll upward. If the climbers fall off the bottom of the screen, they'll drop into a bottomless chasm. For reasons unknown, it sports pink shorts and sunglasses.

~ Description of the Polar Bear's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
The Polar Bear is the secondary antagonist of Nintendo's Ice Climber video game series. The Polar Bear also makes its representative appearance throughout the Super Smash Bros. series. It is titled after the realistic polar bear and wears sunglasses and a pink bathing suit for unknown reasons. When remaining in a particular place for too long, he emerges to speed things up.
The Polar Bear is white or yellowish-furred, slick, giant anthropomorphic polar bear who wears pink-sleeveless pants, which can also be referred as a pink bathing suit, and wears shiny and black-colored sunglasses. However, in the game's official box art for North American, the Polar Bear's pants are colored red instead.
Biography[]
Ice Climber[]
In Ice Climber, Polar Bears would make their major appearance as an antagonist on the mountain that the Ice Climbers were scaling. If an Ice Climber happens to be remaining idle for too long to climb up a level of a mountain, one would appear and will stomp on the ice to move up a single level, making an Ice Climber lose a life if one was at the lowest possible level. When being in a particular level for too long, Polar Bears make a major appearance to speed the game up. Upon his appearance, he will typically appear on the highest visible stage, the camera will move up a stage, regardless of whether the Ice Climbers can perform such. Even whacking it with a hammer will not prevent the stage from rising. If the Ice Climbers are on the bottom stage, the duo will make a reappearance on the lowest non-cloud stage. Unlike other antagonists, touching a Polar Bear does not cause the loss of a life. It will basically shove the Ice Climbers if standing in front of it. Like other antagonists, whacking it with a hammer will negate effects of touching it. A Polar Bear will turn around after reaching its first gap, but will fall through the second gap it finds. A Polar Bear will never appear after reaching the eighth level of a mountain.
Super Smash Bros. series[]
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Polar Bears serve as an antagonist in the game's Adventure Mode. In Stage 10: Icicle Mountain, Polar Bears can sometimes be seen in the first part of the stage. They walk back and forth on the various platforms, and sometimes jump in order to force the screen to scroll up. The Polar Bears despawn when the Ice Climbers appear. It is possible to pick up the antagonist with a grab, then throw them at opponents; because of the Polar Bear's high weight, it can effectively one-hit KO opponents when smash thrown. By KOing a Polar Bear in either regular matches or the Adventure Mode, the player is awarded the Polar Bear KO bonus, which is worth 800 points, the most for an antagonist. The bonus also stacks if the player defeats more than one.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a Polar Bear appears as a background character on the stage, Summit. When the stage has slid down the mountain and into the water, a Polar Bear will drop down from the sky and send the stage lower into the water. From there, it will begin walking in the background, akin to its appearance from Ice Climber, and sometimes stopping to jump and send the stage even lower into the water. The Polar Bear remains in the background when the stage regrows. However, it will be blown off the stage when it breaks off again, though it will still respawn when the stage ends up in the water again.
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U during Smash Run, the Polar Bear appears as an uncommon antagonist. Like in Melee, it regularly walks forward on the platforms, and it occasionally stops to jump in place, dealing significant damage when it lands. It has high HP and a resistance to grabs, but it is weak to flaming attacks, which even make it flinch. Owing to its above-average strength, it drops more power-ups than regular antagonists.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a Polar Bear can be seen teetering precariously on the icy mountain in Iceberg. Additionally, the Polar Bear also reappears on the returning Summit stage. The Polar Bear also appears as an Ace-class support spirit. It can be summoned using the cores of Bewear and Freezie. In Adventure Mode: World of Light, the Polar Bear is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. The Polar Bear's spirit is located in the icy mountain of the Light Realm. The Polar Bear's Spirit Battle possesses a puppet fighter of Donkey Kong and is fought on the Summit's Battlefield-esque form. During the battle, Donkey Kong is equipped with slow super armor, referencing how the Polar Bear is a slow, albeit powerful antagonist in Ice Climber. Additionally, the Freezie item appears, and periodic earthquakes will shake the stage while Donkey Kong can deal damage by falling, referencing the Polar Bear's ability to perform a powerful stomp.

Trivia[]
Although the condor is the main antagonist of Ice Climber, the Polar Bear ironically makes its representative appearance on the North American box art of the game for the NES as the sole antagonist, alongside Nana, instead of the condor. This could potentially reference that Polar Bears are more common to encounter while scaling glacial mountains in real life than condors.
Polar Bear typically wears pink, sleeveless pants in Ice Climber. In the North American box art of the game, however, the Polar Bear's pants are colored red instead. This is due to inconsistent coloring during the timeline.
This oddity is shared with Nana in the same artwork, whose parka is colored red instead of pink.
