“ | Watch out! That black guy's got a gun and he's gonna steal your banana! | „ |
~ The police officer to a white bystander, who is next to a black bystander holding a banana. |
A Police Officer is a character from Comedy Central's Key and Peele, serving as a villainous protagonist in a skit from the episode "Y'All Ready For This?" He is a paranoid, bigoted and trigger-happy officer sent to investigate a disturbance, but ends up shooting multiple black men for holding non-threatening objects.
He was played by Davey Johnson.
Biography[]
The officer arrives at the region where a disturbance was reported. Holding his gun out, he comes across an African-American man who turns around, revealing that he's holding a popsicle. The officer mistakes it for a gun and shoots the man. As he realizes his mistake, a black and a Caucasian men, both eating bananas, are shocked by the incident. The officer thinks the black bystander has a gun and is threatening the white one and shoots him, while the white bystander runs away in fear. Another white man, armed with a gun, appears, but the officer doesn't seem to care, urging him to leave the dangerous area. Just then, another black man, carrying a plush giraffe, walks by, and the officer shoots him as well.
By the end of the day, the officer has killed many people and talks to the crime scene investigators, lying that all of them carried guns, when the police chief (also black-skinned) interrupts him, asking angrily who was responsible for the crime. The officer confesses, but then sees the chief holding a coffee cup and shoots him as well. He once again realizes his mistake, but nonchalantly continues to tell his version of the story to the investigators. It's unknown what happened to the officer afterwards, but it's possible that he was eventually arrested for killing his superior.
Personality[]
The police officer is very cowardly, as despite being armed with a gun, he is scared of any black person holding an object, and his first reaction is to fire his gun at them while screaming like a maniac. It's unknown if he's openly prejudiced towards racial minorities or if he doesn't even realize that he is racist, considering he appears to be so stupid that he actually believes harmless objects to be guns, and doesnt notice actual guns if a white person is holding them. Nevertheless, he continues to lie even when realizing that he made a mistake, showing that he is afraid of facing justice.
