The Pollenator is one of the two plant-themed monsters of the Machine Empire serving King Mondo and a minor antagonist in Power Rangers Zeo, serving as the main antagonist of the episode "A Few Bad Seeds."
He is voiced by Kirk Thornton who previously voiced the Hatchasaurus and the Dramole as well as Professor Longnose in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Silo and later voiced Altor and Nuklifier all also in Zeo, Crash in Power Rangers Turbo, Voltage Hog and the Craterites in Power Rangers In Space, Brunt and Samuron in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Spellbinder in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, Angelcon in Power Rangers Time Force and Motorcycle Org in Power Rangers Wild Force. Outside of Power Rangers, he is most well known as Shadow the Hedgehog (in all of his appearances since 2010) as well as Orbot from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
Biography[]
Unlike most monsters of the Machine Empire, the Pollenator and his "cousin" Adrian are not preexisting monsters. Instead, the Pollenator is derived from a plant raised by Rocky as his botany class project that sprouts when he plants multiple unknown seeds in one plant pot. Despite being a seemingly normal plant, it sprouts within a day of being planted and proves ravenous; even eating Bulk's police badge to satisfy its hunger. Using that metal, it manages to quickly grow so Bulk tries to nip it in the literal bug only for the scissors to be eaten as well but he and Skull manage to still cut off a vine and stuff it into a plant pot to grow an entirely new plant. Seeing this, King Mondo decides to turn the plant into monsters to eat the Earth and has Prince Sprocket and some Cogs steal them despite Rocky and Adam intervening with a Cog escaping into a portal after Adam corners it and then ripping it from his grasp with the aid of two others. He then has the plants being fed all kinds of food and metals until turn into anthropomorphic monsters with the Pollenator being Rocky's original plant.
The monsters share the same hunger as when they were normal plants but Mondo has to beat them into submission due to the "cousins" being lazy and just wanting food before forcing them to attack the Earth. They attack the Angel Grove Auto Wrecking Yard to eat metal and become stronger where the Zeo Rangers confront them and neither monster is happy about it as they consider interruptions during a meal rude. Together, they overwhelm the Zeo Rangers and wipe them out with a devastating vault attack but manage to fail with a second attack after Adrian trips and King Mondo is forced to withdraw the fighting "cousins." Upon confronting them, the Pollenator just wants food so he threatens Adrian's life unless he obeys. Although the Pollenator defends his "cousin" from the Cogs, both are blasted down and he is forced to return to Earth and continue the plan to save Adrian's life.
Immediately upon arriving on Earth, he confronts Rocky whilst he heads to the library alone and is overwhelmed by the Ranger until he sprays Rocky with pollen which forces the Ranger to retreat. King Mondo is pleased since the pollen will turn Rocky into a plant as the Pollenator he views Zeo Ranger III like a father and sends the Pollenator to attack an overpass when Mondo orders him to eat more and grow stronger. At the overpass, he meets the remaining four Rangers and, despite being outnumbered, he is an even match for them because he has reached full power. He overwhelms them even when they jumped on him with thier Pod Swords and managing to knock the Zeo V Power Sword out of Tommy's hand. Before long though, Alpha returns Rocky to normal by exposing him to pure oxygen which proves to be the Pollenator's weakness. Morphing to the overpass, Rocky tells the other Rangers about his weakness and they finally destroy the Pollenator with the Advanced Zeo Laser Pistols that have been infused with oxygen capsules. Due to his body being completely obliterated in the process, the Pollenator is not able to be enlarged by Klank and Orbus.

After Prince Sprocket complains about Punch-A-Bunch damaging himself during battle against the Zeo Rangers, Boohoo the Clown is indirectly referenced along with all previous monsters used up to that point when Machina reassures her distraught son that the Rangers have ruined all of their monsters.

As a plant, the Pollenator was a mindless but extremely ravenous being that spoke only in moans and would eat anything metal to satisfy its hunger. After being turned into a monster, he was far more sadistic and violent; only being loyal to King Mondo because he offered food. He also wasn't very bright; constantly speaking in a dumb slow voice, only being focused on his appetite and failing to pick-up on obvious clues. Despite this, he deeply cared about Adrian (although he could get violent if Adrian failed) and saw Rocky as a father due to raising him from a seed.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: The Pollenator knocked away Kat with a back-handed strike, knocked Adam away with three punches, able to grab him and Kat by the throat and throw them away and throw off four Rangers as they struck him with thier Pod Swords. He could also bend down and have Adrian vault from his back but stay upright.
- Durability: The Pollenator was blasted by King Mondo's lightning and repeatedly struck by the Zeo Pod Swords without a scratch.
- Skilled Fighter: The Pollenator is able to fight and overwhelm all four Rangers with his bare hands. He could also easily fight off three Cogs, even stealing one of thier spears to use against them.
- Agility: The Pollenator dodges a kick from Kat by swerving his body to the side and was able to vault off of Adrian's back to get a height advantage.
- Super Jumps: Using his agility, the Pollenator can jump on Adrian's back and then vault off of it to gain extra height.
- Metal Eating: The Pollenator can eat metal like humans eat food which could be anything from Bulk's police badge to cars in a junkyard.
- Power Enhancement: The Pollenator will never stop gaining power as long as he keeps eating.
- Stamen Blasts: The Pollenator can fire the yellow stamen from his shoulder flowers like missiles which are capable of causing large explosions and taking down four Zeo Rangers with one hit.
- Eye Blasts: The Pollenator can spray blue energy blasts from his eyes that are strong enough to cause large explosions.
- Transformation Pollen: The Pollenator can open the flowers on his shoulders and spray his enemies with yellow spores that, when inhaled, slowly turn a human into a plant by slowly converting thier cells into plant matter. Being infected by this pollen also causes the victim to act completely stoned out on drugs.
- Stamen Blasts: The Pollenator can fire the yellow stamen from his shoulder flowers like missiles. They are capable of causing large explosions and taking down four Zeo Rangers with one hit.
Weaknesses[]
- Eating Necessity: The Pollenator needed to keep continually eating or his power would slowly decrease and he would become weaker over time.
- Pure Oxygen: When shot with pure oxygen, the Pollenator would be instantly destroyed although why this weakness exists is unclear.
Arsenal[]
- Fists: Although he had no weapons of his own, the Pollenator is able to easily decimate his enemies with his bare hands.
- Energy Reflection: By joining hands, the Pollenator and Adrian could form a blue energy shield to reflect the Zeo Rangers' Zeo Laser Pistol lasers right back at them.
- Energy Whips: The Pollenator can draw his left hand from his right palm to generate a blue energy "rope" that he could use to whip his enemies. This was strong enough to knock the Zeo V Power Sword out of Tommy's hands.
- Spear: Whilst fighting to protect Adrian, the Pollenator stole a Cog's spear to defeat the other footsoldiers.

Trivia[]
- In Ohranger, the Pollenator survived the Advanced Zeo Laser Pistol finisher but found that King Mondo had killed Adrian as punishment for feeling human emotion and quickly killed the Pollenator for the same reason. For obvious reasons, this was removed from the Power Rangers version.
- This was why there was no scene of Mondo to end the episode and why the Pollenator and Adrian did not appear in American made footage. In the Sentai episode, the Pollenator's suit was blown apart and dismembered when Mondo destroyed him.
