Pony Express finally kicking the bucket, huh. What a joke. And we're the punchline.
~ Swansea after learning from Curly that Pony Express will be shutting down.

Pony Express are the overarching antagonists of the 2024 psychological horror game Mouthwashing, developed by Swedish developer Wrong Organ.

They were a sleazy, neglectful intergalactic delivery company that would treat its employees horribly and eventually go bankrupt due to automation, causing the co-pilot of one of their courier ships, the Tulpar, to attempt a murder suicide via crashing the ship into an asteroid during a 382-day delivery job, plunging the rest of the Tulpar's crew into disarray.

History[]

Pony Express was an intergalactic delivery corporation whom the Tulpar freighter and its crew perform long-haul deliveries for. Despite delivering positive affirmations through its happy-go-lucky mascot, Polle, the company embodied a near-satirical portrayal of a stereotypically greedy and soulless corporation, constantly cutting corners on resources, costs, and safety regulations while exploiting their workers for profit, all the while boasting about productivity and how great it is to work there.

Their negligence was evident in, but not limited to, their lax psychological evaluation standards, the restriction of many resources and emergency tools behind a code scanner accessible only to the captain, adding an extra person to the crew at the last minute without accounting for additional supplies, and installing an automatic system to fill hull breaches with insulation foam during a crash (which ended up flooding the ship's interior, blocking off vital areas for the eventually marooned crew).

It is also implied that Pony Express operates in a dystopian future as one of the few remaining manually-operated intergalactic delivery companies, and was struggling to complete with their automated rivals. The only cargo aboard the Tulpar was Dragonbreath mouthwash, making the entire ordeal aboard the ship even more trivial.

Ultimately, they went bankrupt, and naturally, they responded by laying off all employees without offering proper severance, support, or adequate notice. This ends up spurring the main conflict of the game, as it prompts Jimmy to crash the ship after he was pushed over his limit. This resulted in the disfigurement of Curly, the eventual overdose of Anya, the mauling and subsequent death of Daisuke, and the murder of Swansea. The company’s dissolution also weakened the chances that Curly would ever be found in the last remaining cryo-pod where Jimmy placed him.
