The Pookadook is the main antagonist of the segment of the same name in The Simpsons episode "Treehouse of Horror XXXIII". He is voiced by Dan Castellaneta (in his true form) and Julie Kavner (in possession of Marge Simpson).
Biography[]
While looking for a bedtime story to read to Maggie, she finds a mysterious book called "The Pookadook" which she never recalled getting. The two decide to read it, but the book frightens Maggie and unnerves Marge, especially with how it seems to threaten the two of them and states that reading the book awakens the Pookadook.
Deciding they had enough, Marge puts Maggie to bed and the book on a shelf. However, the book winds up in Maggie's crib, prompting Marge to tear it apart and the two of them throw it in the trash.
The nightmare doesn't end there though as the Pookadook restores the book and threatens Marge by telling her she will change and kill her family, starting with Maggie. Horrified, Marge attempts to destroy the book by burning it in Homer's grill. However, this turns out to be exactly what the Pookadook wanted as it proceeds to possess Marge. From there it tricks the rest of the family into going to a sleepover at an aquarium so that it and Maggie would be alone. There Maggie, realizing that her mother is being controlled by the Pookadook, makes an attempt to reach out to her.
However, everything she attempts to show only shows of Marge's frustrations with the family. It isn't until Maggie touches her cheek that Marge is able to break free of the Pookadook's control. It refuses to give up as it approaches the mother and daughter, only for Marge to take a vacuum to suck the spirit in, trapping it.
When it looks like it could escape through Marge's frustration, Maggie's innocence calms her down which also keeps the Pookadook sealed.
