Poppy Bros. Sr. is a supporting antagonist in the Kirby franchise. He serves as a minor antagonist in Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure and its remake Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, Kirby Super Star and its remake Kirby Super Star Ultra, and a major antagonist in Kirby's Pinball Land and Kirby's Block Ball. He is a reoccuring mini-boss who often fights alongside King Dedede in his schemes.
Appearance[]
Poppy Bros. Sr. resembles his smaller counterpart, Poppy Bros. Jr., but is taller. He also has longer legs, a white collar, and curved yellow shoes.
Biography[]
Kirby's Dream Land[]
In Kirby's Dream Land, Poppy Bros. Sr. is the first boss to be encountered in the game. He is fought at Green Greens, where he bombards Kirby by pelting bombs at him or attempting to jump into Kirby. Poppy Bros. Sr. returns in the game's Extra Mode, where he becomes slightly harder and ditches his hops in favor of charging at Kirby.
Kirby's Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[]
Poppy Bros. Sr. behaves exactly the same as his first appearance. However, once defeated, he can be eaten by Kirby, granting him the Crash ability. Interestingly, in some levels, two Poppy Bros. Sr. appear at once.
Kirby's Pinball Land[]
Poppy Bros. Sr. is the a boss of his own eponymous level, Poppy Brothers' Land. He starts out on one platform and will toss a bomb at one of the flippers, paralyzing it. Afterward, he will immediately jump to the opposite platform and repeat the aforementioned attack. Once Kirby bumps into him three times, he duplicate himself into two Poppy Bros. Srs.. Both Poppy Bros. Sr. and his clone will then land on a platform and attack the flippers. After defeating Poppy Bros. Sr. and his doppelganger, he will drop a key that leads to King Dedede's hideout.
Kirby's Avalanche[]
Poppy Bros. Sr. appear in Kirby's Avalanche as the fourth opponent Kirby faces, replacing Draco Centauros from the original Puyo Puyo game and the first opponent fought in normal mode. His strategy reflects this, as he simply drops blobs at a very slow rate.
Kirby's Block Ball[]
Poppy Bros. Sr. is one of the bosses Kirby must face in Kirby's Block Ball. Here, he hides in a circus tent guarded by several enemies. After defeating the stronghold's enemies, Kirby is greeted by Poppy Bros. Jr., who he must bump into 4 times to face off against Poppy Bros. Sr. When fighting against the bomb-chucking jester himself, he will jump back and forth across three platforms, dropping bombs that can shrink the bottom paddle. Once Poppy Bros. Sr. is defeated, he will drop a Warp Star Kirby will ride to progress further.
Kirby Super Star/Kirby Super Star Ultra[]
Like in Kirby's Dream Land, Poppy Bros. Sr. is the very first miniboss encountered as "Spring Breeze". He both utilizes his charge attack and sporadic hops to fight against Kirby. In "Revenge of The King", however, Poppy Bros. Sr. is replaced by Phan Phan.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[]
In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Poppy Bros. Sr. appear on one of the game's collectable keychains. Additionally, he makes a cameo appearance on the tapestry that Kirby unfurls in Lollipop Land.
Trivia[]
- Poppy Bros. Sr. is the only one of the game's Mid-Bosses who isn't a counterpart to the boss of the stage he is fought in (Whispy Woods) in Kirby's Dream Land.
