Poppy Prescott is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Gru Jr.) of Illumination's 15th full-length feature film Despicable Me 4, the fourth installment in the Despicable Me film series.
She is an inhabitant of Mayflower and the next-door neighbor of Chet Cunningham. After discovering that Chet is actually Felonious Gru, she blackmails him into helping her steal Lenny the honey badger from Lycee Pas Bon, an esteemed villain school which Poppy hopes to attend.
She was voiced by Joey King, who also played the young Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises, Magenta in The Flash, Claire Shannon in Wish Upon, and Prince in Bullet Train.
History[]
Poppy was first seen glaring at Gru and his family when they first arrived at Mayflower. She was later seen getting in her father's car when Gru tried to get her to be friends with Margo, which she denied. Days later, she snuck into Gru's yard and confronted him. She told Gru that she knew his true identity and that she would reveal it to the whole world unless he helped her.
The next day, Poppy threw a paper throwing star at Gru instructing him to meet her at her treehouse. She then engaged in a dancing video game with her cat before Gru arrived. After Gru finally managed to get into Poppy's treehouse, she told him that she was going to steal Lenny, the honey badger mascot of Lycee Pas Bon. Poppy believed that this act would impress the school enough that they would allow her to become a student.
Later on that night, while Ralph was stuck in the vending machine, Poppy, Gru, Gru Jr., Dylan, and Samson snuck into the school. While the plan had several hiccups, the main 5 managed to steal Lenny. They were nearly killed by Principal Übelschlecht, though they escaped by using the principal's flying car. After the heist, Poppy thanked Gru and assured him that she wouldn't tell anyone his secret.
Reconsidering her dismissive nature towards Margo, Poppy arrived at the AVL Safehouse to hang out with Gru's children the following day along with Dylan while Ron made popcorn. Their playdate was interrupted when Übelschlecht came to the house looking for Gru. Poppy then left the house, though she returned with the stolen flying car just after Gru Jr. was kidnapped by Maxime Le Mal.
Using the car, Poppy helped Gru get onto Maxime's plane to save his son. It is unknown exactly what she did after this, though it is known that her plan to get accepted into Lycee Pas Bon was successful, as she was seen attending during the film's ending sequence and singing Everybody wants to rule the world.
Personality[]
When Poppy first appeared, she was cruel and dismissive. She rarely showed affability to anyone, and she showed no qualms about blackmailing Gru by threatening to out Gru of being a former supervillain. However, as the film progresses, she's shown to have a kinder side.
She genuinely respects other villains and even forms a friendship with Gru. Like many other villains in the series, Poppy also has a high opinion of herself; this is most shown by everything she owns having her logo on it.

Trivia[]
- Fitting with her affinity for villain culture, Poppy has an action figure of Evil Bratt and a poster for the Vicious 6 in her treehouse.
- Poppy was originally going to be the film's main antagonist. However, she was later changed to being one of the deuteragonists and Maxime Le Mal was given the role of main antagonist.
