Porunga (ポルンガ Porunga) is a supporting character in the Dragon Ball franchise. He is the Eternal Dragon of Planet Namek, who grants any wish to anyone who summons him using his Namekian Dragon Balls and asks the wish speaking the Namekian language.
He is voiced by late Junpei Takiguchi, Masaharu Satō, late Daisuke Gōri and Ryūzaburō Ōtomo in Japanese, Richard Newman in the Ocean Group dubs and Dale Kelly and Christopher R. Sabat in the Funimation dub.
Biography[]
Porunga was created by the Grand Elder Guru at some point of his life and the Dragon Balls, being notably bigger than the ones of the Earth, are keep by the Namekians so they couldn't be used by evil purposes. Two examples of villains who wanted to get an evil wish from Porunga are Vegeta and Frieza, who wanted to gain immortality and rule the Universe. However, POringa didn't granted their wishes because he only responds to the Namekian languaje.
Throughout the series, Porunga granted many heroic wishes, like reviving the Z-Fighters, teleporting everyone in Namek to the Earth before the planet explodes or restoring the Earth. However, when Porunga is summoned by Moro he grants his first evil wishes. The two first are to heal to Cranberry and then restoring the full magical power of Moro, who attemps to devour the entire universe to become unstoppable, an the third one is to release all the Galactic Prisoners, including many dangerous intergalactic criminals. However, after Moro's defeat Porunga estores all the plantes that Moro destroyed and revives all his victims at the request of the Z-Fighters, restoring the damage that he previously did.
Trivia[]
- Although it was already known that he can grant evil wishes, Porunga only granted heroic wishes in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. However, in Dragon Ball Super he grants his first evil wishes, turining officially into a villain.
